FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. An annual winter gathering and summer camp held each Summer for families that have adopted (or are in the adoption process) from India, Nepal, China, the United States and several other countries who have an interest in exposing their kids to their birth country's culture and meeting and socializing with other families that have adopted. Originally started by a numbe
r of Illinois and Wisconsin families that had adopted from India, the camp has grown to include and welcome families and children from several countries. The "I" in "I-child" should be read to mean "International", as opposed to the former understanding of "India" or "Indian". Where is it? The winter gathering moves between hotel/resort locations in Wisconsin and Illinois each year. For the last 13 years the summer camp has been held at the beautiful Green Lake Conference Center in Green Lake, Wisconsin. Where do all the attendees come from? All over. States represented include Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri and even Alaska! We never attended in the past. Will that matter? Absolutely not! While there are many families that come every year and plan their winters and summers around our gatherings, new families attend and are welcomed openly into the community every year. Will our family have fun? Absolutely! Games, crafts, shopping, swimming, Camp Olympics, hiking, golf, bonfires, s'mores, gummy worms, culture, movies, food and dancing, laughter and so much more! :)
Q. How do we get involved? Check out our page and check back to this page for updates. Who runs this event? This is a 100% volunteer, unincorporated and non-profit enterprise run by the parents and children attending the camp. Planning for upcoming camps generally occurs in open meetings held at the end of the summer and winter events. As we set up the schedule of events, we will forward a signup page for needed volunteer positions. We ask that all adults volunteer and help out as much as they are able. Does MWIHC/Namaste' have a charitable purpose? Yes. In addition to having fun, effort is made each year to raise money for our designated charities. Profits from our camp stores and fundraisers are used to support a designated orphanage, other charitable groups and to offset costs for our families with financial challenges. Can I help organize the 2014 or 2015 Camps? Nominations for the Steering Committee are always open - please e-mail [email protected] or post on our page to join up! I still have questions - what should I do? Send an e-mail to Terry at [email protected]
