The Fox Valley Raging Grannies

10/04/2026

We sang a song from the The Piedmont Raging Grannies for Charlie Berens today. Charlie emceed the Rally for the Valley fundraiser for those affected by the recent tornado in Menasha. As you may know, Charlie is very vocal in his opposition to data centers.

The Grannies were on hand earlier today to lend our signature “sass with a message” to the event organized by Appleton Area NOW and the Mayor’s office. The City of Appleton recognized August 26th as Women’s Equality Day with a public reading of the Proclamation. On this day in 1920 the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

This was progress, but we have a long way to go. The Equal Rights Amendment was first proposed in 1923. More than 100 years later it has not yet been adopted as the law of the land. We think it’s disgraceful that the United States is not among the countries that guarantee full equal rights for women!

We celebrated July 4th and America’s 250th birthday by joining with Appleton Area NOW in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. We read the Women’s Declaration of Independence together and sang our satirical songs, first in front of the replica of Lady Liberty in Neenah and then in front of the Outagamie County Courthouse.

28th Amendment now!
