Mexican American History Project: Greeley

09/15/2026

Yesterday, the Mexican American History Project was honored to be invited to Billie Martinez Elementary as part of their Hunger Project, where students are exploring hunger in our community and learning how different cultures and communities have shaped our local food and history.

We had the opportunity to talk with students about the Braceros, who they were, the work they did, and the important role they played in agriculture and food production across the United States and right here in Greeley.

We are grateful for opportunities like this to share our community’s history with the next generation and to recognize the hardworking people whose contributions helped shape the community we know today!

We are incredibly honored to share that “Our History, Our Voice” has received the 2026 Josephine H. Miles Award from History Colorado!

This recognition means so much to everyone who has been part of the Mexican American History Project Greeley. Our History, Our Voice was created to preserve, celebrate, and share the stories of Mexican American families whose lives, work, sacrifices, and contributions have helped shape Greeley for generations. This project has always been about making sure these stories are not only remembered, but told in the voices of the people who lived them.

We’re incredibly proud to have been part of this collaborative effort alongside so many dedicated community members, volunteers, families, educators, and our partners at the City of Greeley Museums.

Thank you to History Colorado for recognizing the importance of this work with the Josephine H. Miles Award. Most importantly, thank you to every person and family who trusted us with their stories. This recognition belongs to all of you! ❤️❤️
