🔥 Fire Prevention Week 2026: Lithium-Ion Battery Safety
It’s Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s main message focuses on lithium-ion battery safety. From phones and laptops to e-bikes, scooters, power tools and other rechargeable devices, lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives—but when damaged, improperly charged, or used with incompatible products, they can create serious fire hazards.
One important way to reduce that risk is to “Buy Only Listed Products.”
What does “Buy Only Listed Products” mean?
When purchasing electrical products, chargers, batteries, power tools, or other devices, look for products that have been tested and certified by a recognized testing laboratory.
A “listed” product has been evaluated to meet established safety standards for its intended use. Look for recognized certification marks such as UL Solutions, ETL, or CSA on the product or packaging.
Before you buy, ask yourself:
✅ Is this product from a reputable manufacturer?
✅ Does it have a recognized safety certification mark?
✅ Is it designed for the way I intend to use it?
✅ Does it come with proper safety instructions and warnings?
✅ Am I purchasing from a reputable retailer?
Be especially cautious with inexpensive batteries, chargers, and electrical products purchased online. A bargain isn’t worth the risk of a battery fire in your home.
This Fire Prevention Week, take a few extra seconds to Buy Only Listed Products and make safe choices when it comes to lithium-ion batteries.
