Denison Venture Philanthropy Begins Next Grant Cycle

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison Venture Philanthropy (DVP), a unique Denison University student program organized around philanthropy, will present $10,000 and 200 volunteer hours to a Licking County non-profit organization. Grants for the Denison Venture Philanthropy program are mostly funded through the generosity of David Kuhns, a member of the Denison class of 1968. In 2008 Kuhns challenged Denison students to organize an effort based around philanthropy – but one that also required an investment of student time as well as dollars. DVP creates strong ties between the college and the community and offers students experience with real-world issues.

To date, more than $87,500 and 1,900 student hours have been invested in the Licking County community by DVP. Other organizations DVP has partnered with include Career and Technology Education Centers, Together We Grow, Center for Disability Services, Newark’s Look Up Center, the Licking County Humane Society, among others.

This is a unique experience both for the Denison students interested in learning more about philanthropy and for the grantees to have volunteers helping to insure the grant project can be successful. In that regard, DVP specifically looks for grants centered around community that are sustainable in the future.

This year, the grants will be due to DVP’s grant manager: Micah Arnold at [email protected] by August 30th, 2019 They will be reviewed by the whole organization in Fall 2019. The grant will be dispersed in January 2020—along with the 200 hours of service to be completed by May 2020.

Denison Venture Philanthropy, which is a student-led organization at Denison University that aims to provide $10,000 and 200 hours of community service to one selected Licking County organization each year. We've recently released a request for proposals (see attached) and wanted to reach out and make sure Licking County Park District knew about this opportunity.
This year we’re really hoping to engage further with the community prior to our grant deadline and work with organizations to create more opportunities to do good work in Licking County. We’d be happy to work with you in constructing a proposal and answer any questions you may have about the application and process. Please don’t hesitate to contact if you are interested in submitting a proposal or if you have any related questions.
