April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. We seek to raise awareness of and ask for tougher sentencing for violent crimes against children in the U.S. On April 22, 2013 MACA held the first ever nationwide walk against child abuse and crimes against children in the US. In nearly 200 cities with over 70 TV and print interviews and media coverage. The world famous band, Linkin Park, produced a
national public service announcement that was played in nearly 200 cities. A national sponsor (Ovation Hair Care), stepped up for the first time to support this cause and released 10,000 press releases. Collectively, our goal was to break the silence, open public dialogue about the enormity of the child abuse problem in this country, raise awareness of, and the prevention of child abuse and crimes against children. (How can we continue to help other countries when millions of children are suffering in our own backyard?)
Statistics on crimes against children each year in the U.S. are staggering, sobering and should compel EVERY adult, parent, father, uncle, son, grandfather and all mothers, aunts, daughters, grandmothers and women to be moved to do something NOW. At a recent Washington Congressional hearing in June, 2011, experts testified nearly 10 children die each day from abuse, but they believed that there are many more. NCANDS, the national database for crimes against children, didn't receive data from 3 states in their latest report! States are NOT mandated to report child fatalities as a result of CAN or any type of abuse whether fatal or not! We are NOT seeking to create more bureaucracy, but rather, demanding our lawmakers begin to protect our children through maximum prosecutorial efforts and sentencing NOW. Unlike many diseases, child abuse is a willful act and 100% preventable through TOUGHER law enforcement and education. We MUST let our nation and lawmakers know that Americans will NO LONGER tolerate inadequate laws and light sentencing. Now is the time and we need YOUR HELP. Nearly 10 children die each day in the U.S. from child abuse, which is four times higher than all fallen soldiers in the war on terror. We need help here in America folks, our children in this country need your help. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually molested (r***d) by a close and trusted family member or friend by the time they turn 18, they will never tell you. On April 5, 2014 MACA will hold it's 2nd Annual Walk and we need everyone to register and come out to support the greatest and most important cause on earth, our children, our future. Businesses and organizations CAN donate goods/services (poster board, markers, water or food, etc... We provide you with all the steps/guidelines in how to make your walk the most successful in the nation. You just need to register! Lead Registration is open, please send the required information, name, phone, mailing address and the city and state you wish to help lead and organize a walk to: [email protected] All walks must have a Lead and a minimum of at least one Co-Lead and have completed the registration process. You will be provided with everything you need including a timeline for tasks, letters and public service announcements (PSA"'S), Press releases and times to complete these simple tasks to have a successful walk in your area.
