Strong health systems are built before a crisis hits, not during one.

When countries have the resources, trained health workers and infrastructure to prevent, detect and respond to health threats, they can better protect their communities and help keep the rest of the world safe.

But that kind of readiness requires sustained investment and partnerships that strengthen countries' ability to act, rather than leave them dependent on external support.

At the World Health Summit 2026 in Berlin, ONE Africa Executive Director Serah Makka made the case for stronger, more equal global health partnerships that invest in Africa's capacity to respond to health threats, produce essential medical supplies and protect lives.

Because a healthier, safer future for everyone depends on health systems that are built to last. 🌍
