Mid Rogue Foundation Announces Plans:
Housing Development for Veterans

Grants Pass, Oregon – February 24, 2024 - The Mid Rogue Foundation is pleased to announce plans to develop two acres of land it owns on NE Hillcrest Dr in Grants Pass as a state-of-the-art housing project for low-income military veterans.

“Hillcrest Veterans Village,” owned and managed by the Mid Rogue Foundation, aims to address the critical need for affordable housing amid rising housing costs in our community for those who sacrificed for us --military veterans.

Hillcrest Veterans Village will be a new 22-unit complex, in a multi-plex design. Duplexes and triplexes will offer a safe and healthy environment and a supportive community that that helps residents thrive. The new complex of 2-bedroom, 1-bath units will be designed to create a thriving community with exterior walking paths, garden space and connectivity to the greater community of Grants Pass.

"We are thrilled to begin the process of bringing this necessary housing to our community and to the individuals who have served us in the past.” said Doug Walker, Board member of Mid Rogue Foundation and one of the project managers for this development.

Executive Director of the Mid Rogue Foundation, Susan Clark added, “This project fits perfectly with the community’s need for housing, what the site can accommodate and most importantly what our veterans need.”

Hillcrest Veterans Village will offer the benefits of modern secure individual housing with the community organization and program management of Mid-Rogue Foundation. Resident rent will be paid on a sliding scale and will cover required costs to operate the village.

This project will engage with both architects and local organizations that are experienced with persons with disabilities to help design features for “aging-in-place.” Residential units will include features such as grab bars, walk-in showers, wide hallways, accessible kitchens, and accessible walkways.

Additional features that accommodate and prepare for residents that develop dementia, require hospice, on-site medical services or service animals are also being considered. Most importantly features are being included in the development design that will allow for vibrant living and “aging-in-place” for all residents within a community connected by friends and neighbors.

Another winning bidder shared a pic of her beautiful new piece of yard art displayed in her yard. Trudy Larson Bignotti tells us that Filet of Soul is happy as a clam in his new yard, and she loves looking out the window and seeing him. Congratulations, Trudy! Our HVV Chief Doug Walker says his paint-fumed memory may not be what it once was (understandably!), so if there is someone else who contributed to our efforts over the past 7 months, we deeply apologize for leaving you off the list. But a big shout out of THANKS to these volunteers, who made the HVV Yard Art Auction happen.

Denise Skipper shared with us this fabulous picture of her 3 new yard art pieces, which now live right by her front door. Albert Einspine, Glorious Gauge and the Suncatcher Plant are wonderful additions to her yardscape. Thank you, Denise!
