🌟 TODAY IS ABOUT LEADERSHIP

Today, Perkins County students have the opportunity to attend the JAG Governor's Youth Summit in Kearney.

We talk a lot about preparing students for their futures—but opportunities like this remind us that young people don't have to wait until adulthood to become leaders.

They can lead right now.

Mentors, ask your mentee:
“What do you think makes someone a good leader?”

Then really listen to their answer.

We might be surprised by how much our young people can teach us.

📚 NO SCHOOL—BUT THE PLAINSMEN ARE STILL BUSY!

There's NO SCHOOL today due to Teacher Inservice, so mentors should plan accordingly for visits.

But several of our students are still competing!

👟 UNK High School Cross Country Invite — Kearney
🏈 Junior High Football — Perkins County vs. Sedgwick County at Julesburg
🏐 JH Volleyball — Perkins County vs. Sedgwick County at Julesburg
🏈 JV Football — Perkins County vs. Sutherland

Mentors: No school means no regular TeamMates meeting today, but you'll have plenty to catch up on next time!

JV and Varsity Volleyball are competing at the Hershey JV & Varsity Volleyball Tournament today.

“Would you rather win at something you're already good at OR learn something completely new and be terrible at it for a while?”

That's a conversation that can go in some pretty interesting directions!

That's a FULL Friday!

Whether your mentee is an athlete, spectator or couldn't tell you the score if their life depended on it—knowing what's happening in their world helps you stay connected.

Ask them about their weekend plans during your next visit.

Girls Golf heads to the Ogallala Girls Golf Invite today at Crandall Creek Golf Club.

Mentors, golf gives us a pretty good life lesson:
One bad shot doesn't determine the entire round.

Neither does one bad grade, one bad day, one mistake or one tough week.

That's a message worth reminding our students—and ourselves—once in a while.

Ask what their thing is.
Art? Gaming? Animals? Music? Reading? Cars? Hunting? Cooking? TikTok?

Mentoring works because we're interested in the student—not just their accomplishments.

Meeting at 5:30 PM.

It may not have a scoreboard, but it's worth including in our Mentor Heads-Up.

Why?
Because TeamMates is a school-based mentoring program, and the partnership between our schools, educators, families, volunteers and community makes what we do possible.
