Today we want to take a moment to recognize our treasurer, secretary, and most importantly, our friend, Marian.

Happy birthday, Marian! From your friends and fellow board members at Ampkwa Advocacy.

Marian has been such a huge part of helping make Ampkwa Advocacy what it is. She shows up with her time, her heart, her wisdom, and her steady support. She is truly a literal superhero, and we are so blessed to know her and have her walking with us on this journey.

Building something like Ampkwa Advocacy takes people who believe in the work, who care about our communities, and who are willing to keep showing up even when there is so much to do. Marian has been one of those people from the beginning, and we are so grateful for everything she brings to this work.

hayu-masi, Marian, for being part of building a better future for our communities. We love and appreciate you more than words can say. 🫶🏽🖤❤️💛🤍

TODAY, WE HONOR
Mother’s Day in all the ways it exists

We celebrate the mothers, aunties, grandmothers, and caregivers who continue showing up every day with love, strength, patience, and protection.

We honor the women raising children while carrying grief, exhaustion, trauma, or loss that others may never fully see.

We hold space for those missing their mothers, grieving children, navigating infertility, estrangement, or complicated relationships.

We recognize the aunties, chosen family, older sisters, and community members who help guide and care for others even without the title of “mother.”

And we remember the Indigenous women who should still be here today. The mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, and grandmothers whose absence is still deeply felt in our communities.

Today is not one story.
It is many.

Wherever this day finds you, we hope you feel seen, supported, and cared for.

With love,
Ampkwa Advocacy

We’re excited to share that we will be hosting a Red Regalia Special at the Portland State University Powwow on Saturday, May 2nd. ❤️

Open to all ages and dance styles. There will be prizes and consolations, but more than anything, this is about coming together for the right reasons.

Huge thank you to Future Future Generations Collaborative and PSU 53rd Annual Naimuma Powwow for supporting this special.

If you’ll be at PSU Powwow, come dance with us, support, and help us fill the room with red.

Our Founder, Amanda Freeman's MMIP art exhibit, Honoring Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, will be on display at Oregon State University May 4th - 8th in Corvallis, and she will be speaking on May 5th.

"I started using photography as a way to raise awareness, and over time it has grown into something much bigger through art, advocacy, community, and conversations that need to be had. To see this work welcomed into a university space like this means a lot."

Thank you to everyone at Oregon State University and all who helped make this possible for welcoming this exhibit.

This exhibit honors our missing and murdered relatives while creating space for education, reflection, and dialogue. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported this work and believed in what Ampkwa Advocacy is building.

Ampkwa Advocacy sends our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and community of Jonathan House.

We are holding his family in our hearts during this painful time.

We also want to acknowledge everyone who shared his information, searched, and helped bring awareness to his case. Even when the outcome is not what we prayed for.

Please keep his family and all who loved him in your thoughts during this time.

With care,
