New school!!
Something special is happening on the southeast side of Grand Rapids — and I’m honored to be part of it.
This fall, a brand new tuition-free, teacher-led, Montessori microschool is opening at Jefferson and Cottage Grove, and I’m proud to serve as the founding Board President of Grove Montessori.
Grove is part of the national Wildflower Schools network — a growing movement of teacher-led microschools focused on equity, access, and deeply personal learning. It’s the first of its kind here in Grand Rapids, and it’s been authorized by Grand Valley State University.
We’re starting small with just 27 students in grades 1–4 — and building a school where kids are seen, supported, and encouraged to grow in their own way.
What makes Grove different is simple: our teachers are leading the way. Not just in the classroom — but in how the school is run. Because we believe teachers are brilliant. When we give them the trust, the tools, and the freedom to lead — and then step back — they create magic for our children.
As someone who grew up on the southeast side — and who was shaped by public Montessori education — this means a lot to me. Montessori didn’t just teach me facts. It inspired curiosity.
Now we get to offer that same opportunity to families in this community — in a space that’s built just for them.
Open enrollment is happening now through June 1 — seats are limited and filled by lottery.
