What an incredibly fruitful night at Burton & Eastern with our brothers and sisters from *Allendale Baptist Church*! We also had HRC sister Heidi Boorsma out for the first time 🙌

The evening began with excitement, continued with steady Gospel proclamation, conversations, and prayer, and ended with some beautiful reminders of God's grace.

The evangelism was non stop. I could barely get on the box for more than few minutes before needing to step down amd engage. I cant remember one time where I didn't look up to see Christ being exalted and smiles on the saints faces!

As the night drew to a close, a family pulled over, leading to an extended time of sharing the Gospel and praying together.

Then, just before leaving, my dear friend Robert came through carrying a heavy burden of grief. As we gathered around him in prayer, my shoulder became a place for his tears, and the compassion of the saints became a beautiful instrument of God's comfort.

What a privilege to be used by the Lord, not only to proclaim Christ to the lost, but to bear one another's burdens in love.

“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Praise God for the fellowship of the saints, the power of the Gospel, and the privilege of being His hands and feet on the streets!

Thanks to the 2 families from Allendale Baptist who cane out, cant wait to visit your church fam and serve you! Lets awaken Allendale with the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ!

“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” — Psalm 145:4

I was walking through the grocery store with Christian when this 85-year-old man suddenly turned toward us, full of excitement. He told me he felt compelled by the Lord to tell me how special my little boy was.

He began speaking words of encouragement and blessing over Christian, and before long the conversation turned into praise of Jesus!

We rejoiced together in the Gospel, and this dear brother prayed over my son right there in the grocery store. Then, just as quickly as he had entered our day, he went on his way.

I couldn’t leave it there. 😂

I caught back up with him and asked if we could get a picture together. That’s when he casually began telling me a little about his life.

His name is Curtis Rodgers. He told me about his work with Grand Rapids Public Schools and then, almost in passing, mentioned his work in music—including with the legendary Al Green, who would later become Reverend Al Green.

I was stunned!

But as cool as that piece of history was, that isn’t what made this encounter special to me.

What mattered was that an 85-year-old man saw a little boy in a grocery store and cared enough to stop, speak blessing over him, praise Jesus with his father, and pray for him in the name of Christ.

There was something beautiful about hearing this accomplished man talk about his past almost nonchalantly, while becoming genuinely excited about Jesus and blessing a child he had never met.

What a treat when a legend is so humble that the greatest thing about meeting him isn’t who he knew—but Who he knows.

Thank you, Mr. Rodgers, for stopping to bless my boy.
May Christian grow up remembering—through stories like this—that the people of God are everywhere, and that there is no ordinary place where Christ cannot be praised.

What a blessed time with our Heritage Reformed Congregation family outside the abortion clinic!

They were signed up for a prayer slot with another ministry, but our dear sister Mary invited some of us from Frontline and CryAloud to join them.

I arrived as Mark and Foppe were leaving, but they stayed longer for fellowship. I LOVE THOSE BROTHERS!

Heidi, Karen, and little Abby prayed while I stepped aside to share Christ with someone. We later talked about the philosophy of Gospel ministry at abortion clinics: prayer, presence, and proclaiming Christ—not only to those entering the clinic, but to everyone God places before us.

Right then our neighborhood friend Porcha stopped by! Nearly four years ago, Porcha was fruit of this very ministry. Since then, she has attended church with us and regularly joined Bible study. You never know what the Lord may do with a Gospel conversation!

Roelie and another sister joined us in prayer. While they prayed, someone drove by repeatedly shouting, “I love abortion!” Yet our sisters continued praying.

Roelie prayed that God would awaken men to the evil of abortion. Shortly afterward, a man walked by grieving that fathers have no equal say when their unborn children are killed. Another Gospel opportunity!

Then my old friend Eddie rode by, saw me, slammed on his brakes, and we embraced. Eddie shared deep wounds, including the murder of his son and abuse suffered by his siblings. We gathered around him, prayed, and applied the Gospel to his suffering and longing for justice.

Christ Himself was stripped, abused, and crucified by sinful men. He knows suffering, and through His suffering, death, and resurrection He offers salvation to sinners.

Eddie has not yet placed his faith in Christ, so we prayed that God would graciously grant him repentance and faith.

Prayer. Presence. Proclamation. Compassion.

From the womb to the tomb, everyone needs Christ.

One of the great joys at B&E is watching others step into Gospel conversations and lovingly point people to Christ.

Evelyn and Annabelle had the opportunity to spend time with a woman named Brittany. She shared that she was meeting with Mormon missionaries that evening and was feeling anxious and overwhelmed about the conversation.

The girls prayed with her, encouraged her, and talked through some of the important differences between Mormonism and biblical Christianity. But rather than only giving Brittany a list of arguments, they pointed her back to the Word of God and the Gospel.

Our hope is not found in having every answer, but in Jesus Christ and what He has already accomplished for sinners.

We are not made right with God through our works, religious performance, or by adding anything to the finished work of Christ. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone—and even that salvation rests upon what God has revealed in His Word.

So they encouraged Brittany to keep opening her Bible. Read it. Know it. Believe what God has spoken. Test every claim against Scripture, especially when someone challenges whether the Bible truly is the trustworthy Word of God.

The Gospel gives us something incredibly precious to hold onto:

Christ has done what we could never do.

He lived the righteous life we have failed to live, bore the judgment sinners deserve, died upon the cross, and rose again. The sinner is called to repent and believe in Him—not Christ plus our works, not Christ plus another authority, but Christ alone.

Please pray for Brittany—that the Lord would give her discernment, guard her from error, and anchor her heart in Christ and the truth of His Word.

And praise God for Evelyn and Annabelle being willing to sit with her, pray with her, open the Scriptures, and point her back to Jesus.

If you don’t get the Gospel right, you’ll get everything else wrong.

ARTPRIZE EVANGELISM 2026!

What an incredible evening of Gospel ministry in downtown Grand Rapids!

Every year ArtPrize brings thousands of people into the heart of our city, giving us an incredible opportunity to do something very simple: go where the people are and tell them about Jesus Christ.

This year we were blessed with around 50 brothers, sisters, and children who came together for one purpose—to make Christ known!

Joe and I gathered the team in the park for prayer and instruction and then scattered throughout downtown. Some preached in the open air. Some distributed Gospel tracts. Others engaged people one-on-one, prayed with people, and answered questions. Families served together and children passed out tracts alongside their parents.
One of the things I love about evangelism is seeing the different gifts God gives His people.

Some herald Christ to crowds. Others patiently sit with one person and work through their questions. Some boldly distribute tracts. Others have a wonderful ability to turn an ordinary interaction into a conversation about eternity.

Different gifts. Different personalities. Different roles. One Gospel. One Lord.

Throughout the evening, the Gospel went out all over downtown Grand Rapids. There were serious conversations, objections, questions, prayers, and many Gospel tracts placed into people's hands.
And we may never know what God does with much of it.

We aren't trying to manufacture conversions or measure success merely by what we can immediately see. Our responsibility is to faithfully sow the seed. God alone gives the increase.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” — 1 Corinthians 3:6

One of my favorite moments was seeing this large group gathered together before we began, heads bowed, asking God to use us.

Weak vessels carrying a powerful message.

Thank you to everyone who came out, served, brought their families, preached, prayed, distributed tracts, engaged strangers, or supported us in prayer.

Tuesday night at B&E was one of those nights that’s difficult to put into a post.

We had a solid team, including three new brothers: Liam, Deshawn—through evangelism at PRTS con—and Pastor Martijn of 7th Reformed, who joined us for the last half and plans to come out monthly! This guy is eager for evangelism!

The night was packed with evangelism, but I honestly can’t share most of the details.

There were too many vulnerable conversations—hurts, trials, tears and prayer requests entrusted to our team. Sometimes faithfulness means sharing the stories. Other times, it means protecting them.

But I can share what the Lord did in me.

My night began with Ben, an unbelieving friend I’ve known for years, and Albert, whose transparency about his life continually opens doors for Gospel conversations.

I was weary that night. I didn’t really want to get on the box. When I finally was prayed over and stepped up, I began by being vulnerable with the community about some of my own struggles and weariness.

And the Lord met me there.

As I proclaimed Christ, my own heart was being comforted by the same Gospel coming out of my mouth. There were moments when my eyes filled with tears. My Lord met me.

*The preacher needed the Gospel too.*

As the evening continued, the team spread across the corners. Conversations were happening. Tracts went out. People were prayed for. Luke read Scripture from the box. There was just a beautiful presence of Gospel ministry throughout the team.

And something struck me:

*We weren’t simply bringing the message of the Gospel—we were bringing them the Messenger, King Jesus.*

We weren’t only preaching justification, but adoption. Not merely that sinners can be declared righteous through Christ, but that in Christ we are brought near and made sons and daughters of God. There is comfort in Christ.

Repentance and faith.
Truth and compassion.
Proclamation and prayer.
Law and Gospel.

Tuesday reminded me that we minister to broken and weary people as broken and weary people ourselves, pointing together to the One who says:

“Come to me, all.....” — Matthew 11:28

God is good!!!! Soli Deo Gloria.

The Lord Knew I Needed This Moment

While preaching at GVSU the other week, I hit a point where I was simply weary.

Anyone who has spent much time in ministry knows those moments. You’re pouring yourself out, proclaiming Christ, engaging people, answering questions—and sometimes you realize the tank is getting low.

Then, in the Lord’s kind providence, He sent a dear sister in Christ, Sydney, over to encourage me.

What encouraged me wasn’t that Sydney came over pretending everything was great. Quite the opposite. She was transparent about where her own spiritual and emotional meter was at. She was weary too.

And strangely enough, that strengthened me.

The Psalms are often like that. They don't hide the weariness, discouragement, fear, or heaviness of God's people. The Psalmist can cry, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” and then, in the very same breath, preach to himself: “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him” (Psalm 42:5).

Biblical encouragement isn't always one strong Christian carrying a weak Christian. Sometimes it's two weary saints reminding one another where their strength is found.

With Sydney was another sister whom I had never met before. She shared a beautiful testimony of God's saving grace in her life and in the life of her family. Standing there listening, I was reminded again: God really does save sinners. He really does change lives. He really is building His Church.

For a few minutes, the preacher got preached to.
Neither of them may have realized exactly what the Lord was doing for me in that moment—but He knew.
After they left, I stepped back onto the box, and the Lord gave me the stamina to preach Christ for another hour!
What a kindness from God.

Sometimes His provision for a weary servant isn't immediately removing the weariness. Sometimes He sends another weary saint alongside you, points both of you back to Christ, reminds you of His saving grace, and gives you strength to keep going.

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God.” — Psalm 42:5

Tuesday night was such a solid crew!

After our briefing, we spread out to our spots, and the Lord began to work!

Sarah, Emelie, Elizabeth, and Kenzie had wonderful interactions. They prayed with people, shared Christ, passed out tracts, and walked through the parking lot.

Dave and Nick had traffic and tract distribution and kept a steady pace through the night. Steve and Tyler took another corner, and though things were slower, the Lord still blessed their labor. Poelman stayed near me and had several long, engaging Gospel conversations.

The Vanderweys were fashionably late and had a solid time of ministry to a family!

A few highlights:

1. Mila and her sister came back!
After Sarah and I shared the Gospel with them, Mila stuck around and began passing out Gospel tracts with my girls. They quickly became friends. What a joy to see!

2. You never know who is listening!
While we were ministering below, a little girl opened an upstairs bedroom window and began shouting down to us. Right there from the sidewalk, we shared the Law, the Gospel, and the call to repent and believe in Jesus Christ with her.

People hear from cars. They hear from sidewalks. They hear from parking lots. And apparently, they hear from second-story bedroom windows too! Keep preaching Christ!

3. One conversation became an entire evening.
Poelman began speaking with a woman who had pulled over, and she ended up staying with us for the rest of the night.

Eventually, we gathered around her to pray, and it turned into such a beautiful time of Gospel ministry. What especially encouraged me was watching the teenagers jump in—Bibles open, hearts searching the Scriptures, looking for opportunities to point her to Christ.

There was genuine care, tears, Scripture, Gospel clarity, prayer, and burdens being cast upon Christ.

She is now planning to join us at church soon. Please pray for her!

These are the nights that remind us why we go. We don't know beforehand whom the Lord will send, who is listening, or how He will use a simple tract, conversation, prayer, or public proclamation.

Our responsibility is to go, stand, and speak the words of this Life.
