Frontline Street Ministry

Frontline Street Ministry My name is Stephen Nylen. I am a Christian. Within that identity, ive been blessed with roles. Our primary location for ministry is on Burton and Eastern.

We exist to glorify God, bless our community, equip the saints and witness to the world, in truth and love with boldness and urgency, the Law of God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the call for sinners to repent and believe by the power of the Holy Spirit I am a husband, a father, a church member of Harvest OPC, a veteran, a painter, a chaplain and a street preacher. Ive been engaged in Street min

istry for 9 years. 6 of those years, I have been open air preaching with my ministry, Frontline street ministry. . At Frontline Street ministry, we exist to worship the Lord, grow in faith, bless our community and equip the saints to witness to the world, in truth and in love with boldness and urgency, the Law of God, the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the call for sinners to repent and believe and be born again to worship the Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit according to sound doctrine as we see in the Bible. It is an inner city intersection located on the SE side of Grand Rapids that contains a melting pot of many different people, with urban culture backgrounds. Predominantly, it houses image bearers who are often considered poor and outcast. The Street corner serves as a primary crosswalk for this neighborhood which makes it a prime spot to proclaim the Good News in a variety of ways.We mainly do this through tract distribution, signs, one one conversations, mercy ministry and street preaching. Secondary ministry locations include, but are not limited to, local muder/crime scenes, abortion clinics, festivals, concerts, downtown events and partnerships or collaborations with other ministries. Soli Deo Gloria

Acts 20:24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Please watch:

Announcement for Mama Sarae!

Hey everyone! This is a baby registry for a mom than chose life outside PP, named Sarae.

Babies are murdered at PP but another one was rescued by God's faithfulness. Sarae has two sons-Jayden and Jordan (Jayden is 8 years old and non verbal). They visited Bethany URC several times with the Sweezers and recently moved to TN to be closer to family for help with the baby coming. Onelife4life-GR is keeping in touch with her.

She was induced at 12:30am last night and doesn’t have much to get started with down in TN and we would love to help her. Here is a link in the comments to the registry if you feel called to bless her!

You know the drill! 😀

1. Back Alley Evangelism- While Joshua and Jeremy continued to plead with women not to kill their babies, Halle and I went to the back alley to share Christ. The intention was to simply introduce her to Cody and give a quick tour. However, Belinda came with us and asked woman named Nicole came out as well. We turned it into a Gospel conversation and prayer. Back Alley Evangelism is one of my favorite opportunities to share the Gospel. It is always clear that the Lord orchestrates 😀

2. Fitz- Fitz was walking by in the way to a food drive. He received a Gospel tract but kept walking so I asked if I could walk with him. He agreed and so we had a conversation about his professed atheism. By the end of the conversation he admitted that he did believe in God but rejected the Bible and Jesus. This was an important conversation in his life. I didnt affirm his atheism but told him the truth about what Scripture says. That the fool says in his heart there is no God and that God has made himself known to all men so that they are without excuse. Holding Fitz to the truth rather than his own lies began our relationship as one of great value. I contended for the faith and urged him to repent and believe with what little time left we had and we agreed to continue the conversation next time we talked. Pray for his soul to be saved!

What a powerful and fruitful time in the Lord at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary!

I had the privilege of sharing about our ministry and exhorting these seminarians not just to evangelize—but to boldly take to the streets and preach Christ openly.

The feedback was encouraging! Several seminarians were struck to the heart and have already asked about the street preachers training course, and many shared how the audio from our time together was both convicting and stirring to their souls.

After I finished, brothers Joe (FRC), Jordan (VP), and Andy (HRC) each shared about their ministries, offering further exhortation and encouragement. It was a rich time of sharpening one another for the work of the Gospel. Being around these brothers makes me humble. They are far better evangelists than I. I look up to them in many ways.

The fellowship afterward was just as meaningful. I had the joy of an extended conversation until about 10pm with a mature saint named Joyce. I truly drank deep from the well of wisdom, joy, and Gospel zeal the Lord has given her—what a blessing to hear her heart for the evangelization of the world!

Special thanks to brother Reese Gordon for organizing this—what a solid brother in Christ! If you're local, you can join him for evangelism at Rosa Parks Circle on Tuesdays from 3–5pm. Evangelism opportunity abounds most days of the week. PM me for details!

The harvest is plentiful. Let’s labor!

PS zoom in on the last picture for a seminary prof "Easter egg" 😀

Men In Mercy is back at it!

If you remember, last year Adam and his son came to Grand Rapids MI on a missions trip and took what they learned back to Minnesota. This year, Adam and his wife came to Grand Rapids. It was such a blessing to have them alongside us in ministry! They've returned to MN and have started their inaugural annual evangelism season. Please pray for them!

From Michigan to Minnesota, the Gospel must be proclaimed!

🙌The Word Never Returns Void🙌

After Law/Gospel w Joseph and hostility from a regular in a wheelchair we had a MIRACULOUS moment with "S"!

With Bible open, I directly preached the Gospel to a woman in her car. Silent—no words, no response—just sitting as if to ignore it. But I continued to press in.

This can seem rude to onlookers but its not out of disrespect, but of conviction & love: we endure for the sake of the elect, that they too may receive the gift of eternal life.

She drove off, and I continued.
Later, that same vic pulled into the B&E lot. I noticed her again—still silent, her young son in the backseat. There were tears streaming down her face. I asked her questions directly at her window, but still… no words. Only tears. I wondered if she was mute.

And then—by what I believe was the prompting of the Spirit—I placed my hand on her shoulder and began to pray over her.

After I said “amen”… she spoke.
Her heart opened.

She believed the preaching she heard was the Lord drawing her. She shared that she had chosen not to speak until the Lord spoke again through His Word. When I prayed Psalm 23 over her—declaring the Lord as the Shepherd, guiding her from unbelief into salvation and ultimately into glory. That moment confirmed to her that this was the Lord’s doing.

How supernatural is that? You can't tell me that God isnt on the move in GunRu!

Praise God for His glorious goodness!
She carried deep burdens—crushed by a lack of purpose and meaning, and the weight of past trauma from domestic violence a few houses down from the intersection. But in Christ, we found true peace. Real meaning. Eternal purpose.

We opened the Word—walking through passages like Ephesians 1—applying Law and Gospel, and pointing her to the hope we have in Christ alone.
By the end of it, she not only reaffirmed her faith in Jesus, but she was filled with clarity—about life, purpose, and calling and the Gospel.

Tears of mourning turned into tears of joy.
And together—myself, Luke, and her—prayed with fervor, conviction, and joyful confidence for the future.

To God be the glory! Even when it seems awkward, we must keep preaching Christ with intentionality and conviction!

Meet my new friend Adam, a man who openly identifies as LGBTQ+ and Hindu. I thought i could share some tips from the discussion that may be helpful for evangelism conversations.

Adam saw me at PP and came up for a solid conversation. After our time together we considered ourselves friends.

How?

Different professing beliefs about God, truth, and identity and yet… there we were. Smiling. Talking. Taking a picture and spending a few hours together over a snack and getting him to the bustop.

Why? Ultimately God's sovereignty. Adam could have just walked away.

However here are some tips that come to mind:

•Compassion without compromise.
•Not dehumanizing him or engaging with sarcasm or cynicism.
•Committimg to him and listening and responding with a genuine care for his soul.
•The truth cutting deep but carried with love.
•Open Bible and God glorifying

Let’s be clear, this isn’t about a friendly photo. Adam is dead in sin and needs to be made alive in Christ ( i told him this), yet he came up for a conversation with a Christian, for clarit and because he believed that i would hear him too, and I did. Though he clearly met the saddening Ephesians 2 description of unbelief, I truly did listen and hear him. I didnt have to affirm his identity and I was able to point him toward a new one in Christ. We really had a great time together!

I wont lie though, these conversations can be challenging and temptations to be unfaithful is real, even for me.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to avoid unfaithfulness and pitfalls in these kind of encounters:

•Did I clearly present Christ, or just build rapport?
•Did I challenge his worldview, or stay safe?
•Did I call him to repentance, or only conversation?
•Did I leave him with truth, engage his heart and a reason to keep thinking?
•Was i able to successfully offend him with the Gospel and be a faithful fragrance of Christ that was pleasing to God?
•Did I share the truth in love with humility boldness and urgency of the Law of God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a Call to repent and believe with sound doctrine according to the Bible?

Please pray for Adam to receive a new heart from the Lord.
Cheers and Amen

Last Lord’s Day at Redeemer OPC, our family was deeply encouraged as brothers and sisters gathered around us, and prayed. This was a genuine expression of love, unity, and shared mission in Christ. Thank you for making it possible for my family to hit the streets with the Gospel!

After PastorJeff Deboer preached an incredible sermon, we had the joy of connecting with so many of you at our table in the foyer—talking, laughing, sharing what the Lord is doing, and inviting others into the work of gospel ministry. These moments matter to us and we left feeling lighter as you lifted our burdens.

This isn’t just my calling—it’s something our whole family does. We are grateful for a supporting church who sees that, we thank you for praying over us and loving us so well! Thank you for being bold and cheering us on in this rare form of Gospel ministry. You are legit!

Grateful for a church that surrounds, supports, and stands with us.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Mother/Daughter

These 2 sisters were a genuine compassionate uncompromising force for Jesus on Thursday. Reasoning from the Scriptures and relating from personal experience with unbelievers and praying hard while pleading with tears in their eyes for a mom and her es**rt to choose life. This was used by the Lord for them to turn away from murder (though we are unsure of the details). We pray they remain steadfast and do not return to the killing place.

It was clear from several encounters that the Lord tailored their testimony of both Halles story of being conceived through r**e and Beths story of her and Harold adopting not only Halle but several children for this specific moment in time. Through their story, the Gospel would be proclaimed directly to the heart! From the hecklers cursing challenge to the man's sad and apathetic objections. From the passer bys rejoicing with their children in life to the mother's weeping heart considering death. These 2 could relate to the T! It was simply and supernaturally God-ordained!

The Word never returns void, being carried by the Spirit and alone is able to not only change the mind but pierce the heart and convert the soul and make all things new. To Christ belongs the glory for the time we had!

👉Worship and Evangelism

If youve had conversations with me on the topic youve probably heard me say that worship fuels evangelism and evangelism deepens worship.

When we truly behold the holiness of God in worship, we can’t stay silent. His glory compels us outward. The songs we sing, the Word we hear, the prayers we lift. They don’t terminate on Sunday morning. They are meant to sanctify and send us. (John 17)

When we proclaim Christ to the lost, when we see the broken, when we plead with sinners to be reconciled to God—it drives us back to worship with greater awe. We see the Spirit of God move in the streets and grace becomes sweeter. Christ becomes more precious.

Evangelism without worship becomes cold duty. From where does our zeal and wisdom and hope come from but in worship to the living God?
Worship without evangelism becomes incomplete devotion. What do we do after being in His presence and with receiving this glorious Gospel? Do we keep it in the 4 walls of church, home and heart? Or do we agree with the words of Jeremiah who said it was like a fire in His bones and he could not contain it?!

Worship and Evangelism are together.
They form a living, breathing rhythm of the Christian life: A culture of Beholding His glory, Proclaiming His gospel, Returning with greater praise and joy. Glorify God and enjoy Him! This is true for many aspects of the Christian life but Evangelism has a very special flavor and experience that you cant get anywhere else unless you are doing the Fathers business.

We know the fear of the Lord so we pursuade. We know the love of Christ ao we compel! The Lamb is worthy… so we go.

And when we see even a glimpse of His saving power… we come back ready to fall on our faces in worship.
Go. Preach. Worship. Repeat. 🔥🙌

ZION PRC COMING IN HOT!

After brother Eric Doezema let me speak at 2 evangelism meetings and a glorious Lord's Day of worship: WE HIT THE STREET CORNER!

Over 50+ brothers and sisters from Zion PRC, along with saints from OPC, HRC, and URC, stood shoulder to shoulder FILLED WITH JOY to bring the Gospel to an otherwise spiritually dry corner.

We set up a prayer table, ran 4-corner outreach, passed out tracts—and the Lord moved!
• Multiple people stopped for vulnerable even tearful prayer
• 3 groups went door-to-door
• Several Gospel conversations led to a clear shift—from trusting in good works to trusting in Jesus Christ alone!!!

We dont go for the or the moments, but because Christ is worthy and then He provides the increase!

A “dead” street corner became a place where the Gospel was boldly proclaimed and Christ was lifted high! These saints were tired of sitting on the sidelines. At my visit with them to speak last Wednesday, the Pastor asked fervently and woth desperation, "what's next?" We talk but we rarely walk. This was a shared feeling so by God's grace we did something simple but bold and the Lord blessed it!

Pray for lasting fruit. Pray for boldness. Pray for more laborers. Pray for Zion as they pray for whats next in evangelism for their congregation. The Good Shephard is on the move!

Tell of His salvation from day to day! The Lord reigns! Psalm 96
