Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance - Grand Rapids The Grand Rapids chapter of AFWA, formed in 1943, is one of the oldest chapters in the nation. The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (formerly American Society of Women Accountants or ASWA) was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. Members of the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance and their companies benefit from practical resources and benefit programs that strengthen their professional growth. Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance members tap into an extensive knowledge base of accounting and finance professionals with technical expertise to provide solutions for the most complex issues. Our members communicate both virtually and in-person through online discussion forums, national and regional conferences and chapter meetings. The majority of our members have attained professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFP. Your 2013-2014 Board is:

We love celebrating the continued success of our scholarship recipients! Today, we’re excited to spotlight former award winner Lauren Murray and share where her journey has taken her.
 
Lauren Murray is currently a Staff Auditor at Plante Moran in the firm’s Auburn Hills office, a role she began in August of 2025 after completing her MSA at Grand Valley State University (Go Lakers!). She is actively progressing through her first busy season and continuing to build her experience in public accounting. Lauren has already successfully passed all four sections of the CPA exam and will an apply for her CPA license this year once she reaches the required experience hours.

Barre at the Bar 2026 was one for the books!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s event such a success! We’re especially grateful to our incredible sponsors, Plante Moran and CarLovers, as well as all of the local businesses who generously donated items for our raffle.

Together, we raised over $2,700 for our scholarship fund! 🎓💙

This annual event would not be possible without the continued collaboration between AFWA Grand Rapids and barre3 Grand Rapids. We’re so grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to come together each year to support the next generation of women in accounting and finance.

And a special thank you to Mangiamo Grand Rapids for welcoming us into your incredible space and helping make the evening so memorable!
