Here are some tips for coping with cancer during the holidays
Make plans to get together with friends, family or co-workers over the holidays. Trying to celebrate alone can be very difficult, so accept some invitations from others or join an organized group activity through local agencies or place of worship. Find the right balance between celebrating with family and friends and spending time on your own. Give yourself permission to pace your activities and to decline an invitation or two so that you have the energy to enjoy the gatherings that are most important to you.

Create a new holiday season tradition that makes the most of your energy. Change your usual holiday activities so you relieve yourself of some of the pressures of entertaining. Have a potluck, with family members each bringing a dish for the meal, have someone else host the meal or suggest eating out at a favorite restaurant.

Enjoy special moments. Try to focus on new traditions that have been established, rather than on how cancer has changed a holiday or special occasion.

Talk to your health care team about upcoming special events. They may be flexible about appointments in order to accommodate travel or other needs.

Be an innovative shopper or gift giver. Try online shopping this year. You can also make a gift of sharing your thoughts and feelings. Write a short note or make a phone call to let others know that you are thinking about them.

Express your feelings in ways that help you receive the support of the important people in your life. Tears can bring a sense of relief. Laughter can be relaxing. Sharing can be comforting. It is common to experience a mixture of anticipation, excitement and apprehension about the future. Let your feelings breathe, and talk them over with a loved one, friend or professional counselor.

Celebrate strengths you and your loved ones have developed. Many families who face the day-to-day challenges of cancer discover strengths and courage they didn’t know they had. Reflect on the strengths you have developed, and build on them during the holidays.

There will be moments when you just want to give up.

There will be moments when all seems like it is impossible.

The pain you experience.

The disappointment you experience.

Someone telling you that that you cannot do it.

Will you give up?

Changing your life means changing your habits and behaviors.

Change is really about changing your thoughts, when you finally do, that is when your life will change.

Chemo Facts -

1. Chemobrain is real.

2. I'm not just using it as an excuse. Trust me, I don't WANT to forget things. ...

3. I am not crazy & I am not exaggerating. I'm being honest.

4. It feels as if you're wearing a cap on your head that's made of fog. And it's impossible to remove.

5. My least favorite words are now, "You already told me that." Sometime I may say it 3-4 time before I realize I talked about that already. You don't realize it, but it is so embarrassing to hear that.

6. I really need people to be patient with me. I know you want to snap at me but please don't.

7. It's not funny, it's terrifying. You may laugh at first but after a while there is no joke anymore.

8. Chemo brain can last for years. Yeah, so we have to find a way to get used to it and deal with it.

9.Being forgetful doesn't mean I've lost my intelligence. So please don't talk to me as if I won't understand.

10. Trust me, it's more frustrating for me than it is for you. I know it's annoying to repeat yourself but imagine if you were me.

11. I still have a sense of humor, just sometimes I am quick and others I really have to think what I have heard and finally get it.

Five Ways to Make Valentine’s Day Special for Cancer Patients.

Valentine’s Day may seem like a complete non-priority when you or your loved one is dealing with a cancer diagnosis, but maintaining some romance during this difficult time is good for both your mental and physical health. Whether just diagnosed, currently undergoing treatment, or in remission yet not feeling 100%, here are five ways to make this Valentine’s Day special:

1. Don’t feel guilty about staying in. Dates at home can be some of the best dates there are –– cancer or no cancer. The trick is to put some intention behind it. Pick a movie or TV show that means something to your relationship. Choose your partner’s favorite meal. It’s these little intentions that make the one you love feel acknowledged and appreciated.

2. Decorate. Whether you’re at home or at a hospital, decorate with all the cheesy hearts and cupids you can stand. If you look around the room and it looks like it does every other day, it is going to feel like every other day.

3. Take a walk down memory lane. You know all those old photo albums you haven’t looked at in years? This is the perfect time to blow the dust off of all those wonderful memories and remind yourselves of the beautiful life you have built together. They may make you laugh, cry, or wish you could turn back in time and NEVER get that haircut. That’s all part of the fun!

4. Plan your next adventure. Cancer is greedy. It wants to take all of your time, energy, and attention. Planning for a time when cancer is no longer the first thing on your mind will help you have something to look forward to and get excited about. Go wild, too! This is not the time to talk about whether a post-treatment vacation is financially wise. This is a time to visualize your future in a positive way!

5. Be intimate. Relax, you don’t have to pull out all the stops for this. It’s less about recreating the car scene from Titanic and more about paying intimate attention to each other. Kiss your loved one good morning AND goodnight. Hold hands. Tell her she’s beautiful. Tell him he’s the strongest man you know. You get the idea. It’s the little things.
