Hero's Heart Hero's Heart is a non-profit animal rescue and adoption organization based in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, with a hub in the Twin Cities metro area.

We also work in collaboration with partner organizations on animal welfare reform. We are Candid Platinum.

Cirrus is an affectionate, playful girl who gets along wonderfully with cats, dogs, and kids. While she's happy to play, her favorite thing is showering her humans with love and soaking up all the attention she can get.

Sage is just as sweet and adores being held. With her stunning eyes, gentle purrs, and loving personality, she's sure to steal your heart. She also gets along great with cats, dogs, and kids.

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

Marcia is a gentle girl who is still learning that humans can be trusted. She may be a little wary if you stop to pet or pick her up, but she doesn’t mind a quick pet as you walk by. With patience, love, and a quiet home, this sweet girl will continue to come out of her shell. 🐾

One thing Marcia never hides her excitement about? Food! She’s quite the little beggar at mealtime, likely because of a past where food wasn’t always guaranteed. 🍽️

Marcia enjoys playing with other cats and can do well with respectful dogs that give her space. She’s looking for a family who will understand her gentle spirit and let her blossom at her own pace. 🏡✨

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT!

"They drew first blood, not me." Don't be fooled by his tough guy name. Rambo is a sweet, gentle giant who survived being picked up by a raptor and then dropped (he won!) He is handsome, playful, cuddly, and loves human company. He's also done well with other cats in foster care.

🌸 Friday Feature: Demeter & Persephone 🌸

Could you be the hero this mother-daughter bonded pair has been waiting for?

Demeter is truly a goddess—confident, poised, and loving to everyone she meets. She's gentle, sweet, and never shy about letting you know she's ready for cuddles and conversation.

Her daughter, Persephone, is just as special. Named for the goddess of spring, she has a bright personality to match her beautiful coloring. She'll greet you with happy little chirps, loves to explore and play, and is as nurturing with younger foster kittens as she is devoted to her mom.

Together, they love curling up with each other and soaking up affection from their humans. Their bond is something truly special, and they're hoping to find a forever home where they can stay together.

Sharing a snippet of what happens every day in rescue; sometimes every hour.

We were contacted about a 1 week old kitten whose surrogate mother was hit and killed by a car and had not eaten for possibly 12 hours or more. She also had a pretty serious eye infection. The kitten was brought to one of our nursing moms with a litter nearly the same age. Mom took her in immediately. Baby is safe and receiving medical treatment.

Two teenager/ young adults were searching for someone to take their family’s two 4-month old cats. They had visited several establishments in Grand Rapids and along their 2 hour drive to get here.

We found a foster that could take them in and we’re grateful the owners cared enough to make such an effort to find safety for them.

It’s a hard place that people are finding themselves in - with lack of access to affordable spay/neuter (s/n) and vetting. Something has to give.

We are committed to collaborating with low cost s/n programs and to finding grants to help us fund community s/n.
We are planning to open a matching fund opportunity to bring more access to s/n services soon.

S/n has always been the only answer to the crisis we keep experiencing. But it’s even further away from the public now and from rescues, than it ever has been.

🐾Happy Tails for Tiramisu!🐾

Today we're celebrating sweet Tiramisu finding her forever home! ❤️

When Tiramisu first came to us, her story was heartbreaking. She had been thrown from a car into the snow and left to fend for herself. Fortunately, a passing motorist witnessed what happened and made sure Tiramisu got safely to Hero's Heart. During her spay surgery, our veterinary team discovered she was developing pyometra, a serious and potentially life-threating uterine infection that can occur in unspayed females after repeated heat cycles.

Pyometra can cause pain, discomfort, lethargy, and behavioral changes. Sometimes animals experiencing pain may appear irritable or act differently than usual. Thankfully, Tiramisu recieved the medical care she needed and was given a second chance.

Her story is an important reminder of why spaying and neutering matters. Not only does it help reduce pet overpopulation, but it also prevents serious health conditions like pyometra.

Today, Tiramisu is healthy, loved, and finally home.

As we’ve been sharing, we’ve had a lot of requests for help from various communities in crises. Hoarding houses, animal abandonment, seniors passing with no plan for their pets, and an abundance of stray animals.

We’ve reached out, and continue to reach out, to help as many people and animals as we can, given the huge need vs. our limited capacity. 

Tools, resources, volunteers, and funding help us help our communities. We love to see donations coming in from our supporters and we are always so grateful! We can do more with your support! ♥️

Collaboration and partnerships make a difference! A big shout out to The Retrievers for donating a SpyPoint camera to assist our work! We have partnered with our local Retriever, Kathy Katz Britain for years, to tap into her expertise and assistance to locate animals. It’s a hugely beneficial partnership to help our region. We are grateful for willing partners like these. We can do more together.

Great day today at our adoption event at Central Square Mall! Lots of amazing animals ready for adoption! More available every day as we make sure every animal has their full vet care completed.
Interested in a particular animal to foster for a bit and potentially adopt? We do have a foster-to-adopt program! Contact us if a foster-to-adopt is something you want to discuss.
You foster the animal, while we finish their vet care. We ask you to please bring them to their one or two more vet appointments (locally) and if you wish to adopt, you have first chance. It’s a Win-Win-Win!
