The members of Grand Mound American Legion and Auxiliary - Post 622 will be placing grave flags and poppies at the cemeteries in Grand Mound on Wednesday, May 20th starting around 5:00 PM.

We welcome any volunteers from the community who would like to help us honor our veterans ahead of Memorial Day. Many hands make light work, and it’s a meaningful way to show respect for those who served.

Please meet at the cemetery around 5 PM.

🚧 Progress Update from the Grand Mound Cemetery 🚧

We’ve got a fresh new concrete pad poured and ready to go!

A huge shoutout and special thank you to Brad Maher with Maher Concrete, along with Jim Sprague and Manatt's, for their generous donation of time, materials, and effort to make this happen.

Projects like this don’t come together without strong community support—and we truly appreciate it. This is another big step toward getting the new shed in place to properly store and protect our flag poles.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the Grand Mound American Legion.

If you’ve walked or driven through the cemetery in Grand Mound lately, you might have noticed something missing…

The old American Legion storage shed!

No need to worry—the shed was not vandalized. It has been intentionally removed as part of an improvement project.

Thanks to grant funding and generous community support, we are currently:
• Removing the old structure
• Pouring a new concrete pad
• Preparing for installation of a brand new shed

The new shed will provide proper storage for the flag poles we received last year, helping us better care for and honor the cemetery moving forward.

We appreciate everyone who reached out and your continued support as these upgrades take place. 🇺🇸

Grand Mound American Legion Post 622 is honored to announce that our post has received the 100% American Legion Family Ribbon, awarded for achieving 100% membership by the national target date of May 15.

A National Commander’s Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Craig Schanze, Commander of Post 622, by National Commander James A. LaCoursier, Jr., Department of Iowa. This certificate recognizes that Post 622 successfully accomplished 100 percent of its annual membership goal for the 2025 membership year—an affirmation of the strong leadership and meaningful member involvement that continue to support veterans and uphold the values of The American Legion.

In addition, Grand Mound Post 622 is proud to have earned the:

We’ve replaced the cemetery flag poles with new ones, and we’re offering the old poles for sale before they get scrapped.

• Old steel flag poles: $20 each
• New poles run about $200 each

Thank you to everyone for attending the Memorial Day service. Your presence honors the memory of our fallen heroes!

Thanksl you to 'Kids for Vets.' These young people understand the importance of honoring our veterans, not just with words, but with action. They’ve raised funds – through things like neighborhood lemonade stands – to help repair and replace damaged grave markers here in our cemeteries. It is a powerful demonstration of the next generation’s commitment to remembering and respecting those who served.

Every little bit helps!!

We have been working on this project for a couple years and have received grants from The LincolnWay Foundation and Theisen’s.

With the grant from LincolnWay we were able to purchase new flags and now need to replace the old flag poles that support those flags.
