While so much of our attention right now is focused on the many kittens coming through our doors, today we get to celebrate something very special.

Shadow was surrendered to Voice for Companion Animals more than three years ago. For over three years, she waited.

Recently, a very kind visitor came to our facility and asked about "Black Cat Syndrome" — the unfortunate reality that black cats (and black dogs) are often overlooked in shelters and rescues. After learning about it, he decided he wanted to adopt a black cat.

And Shadow decided to adopt him.

Shadow's early life was not an easy one. As a kitten, she was antagonized and tormented. As she grew older, she experienced something just as painful....being ignored in a home....then being surrendered.

But not anymore.

Today, Shadow went home.

After more than three years of waiting, she finally has a person of her own. A warm bed. A quiet home. A future filled with love.

These are the moments that remind us to take a breath.....and keep going, even during the busiest and most challenging times.

Happy Adoption Day, Shadow. You've waited long enough. ❤️

🐾 KITTEN UPDATE 🐾

Today, two litters of kittens made trips to the veterinarian.

This is the part of rescue that many people don't see. Once kittens come through our doors, the expenses begin immediately. Veterinary exams, medications, deworming, vaccinations....ear mite treatment......all before these little ones can find loving homes.

We are grateful for the incredible response to our recent kitten posts. Your shares, donations, and offers to foster are already making a difference.

Kitten season is just getting started, and we know there will be more calls tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. But today, because of your support, these kittens received the care they needed.

Thank you for helping us help them. ❤️🐾

⚠️ UPDATE ON THE KITTENS ⚠️

Many of you have seen our urgent post from earlier today about the nine kittens needing help.

The kittens are now safe, but the reality of rescue is setting in quickly. Four of them are showing signs that they need veterinary attention, and they will be seen as soon as possible.

These photos are exactly why we were asking for help.

When kittens come into rescue, they don't just need a safe place to sleep. They often need medical care, medications, vaccinations, deworming, parasite treatment, and eventually spay/neuter surgery.
We are incredibly grateful for the response to our earlier post, but we still need fosters and donations.

If you haven't already, please go back to our original kitten post and:

🐾 Consider making a donation

Every comment and share helps Facebook show that post to more people, and right now we need as many people as possible to see it.

Thank you for caring about these little ones. They are safe tonight because people in this community stepped up.

🚨🚨 URGENT: KITTEN FOSTERS AND DONATIONS NEEDED 🚨🚨

We are facing a kitten crisis.

Last night, we took in a kitten that had nowhere else to go. Today, we have EIGHT MORE KITTENS in need of safe placement. That's NINE kittens needing help almost overnight.

These kittens do not need bottle feeding, but they do need experienced foster homes where they can be safely cared for until they are old enough for adoption. Voice for Companion Animals will provide food, supplies, and veterinary care. We simply need people willing and able to open their homes.

Without foster homes, we cannot continue saying yes to kittens in need.

At the same time, we urgently need financial support. Many kittens arrive needing immediate medical attention. As they grow, every kitten will require deworming, parasite prevention, vaccinations, and eventually spay/neuter surgery.

The costs add up quickly. A goal of $2,500 may seem ambitious, but the reality is that caring for nine kittens—and the many more likely still to come this season—is expensive. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps provide lifesaving care.

🐾 Food, supplies, and veterinary care provided
🐾 Donations urgently needed for medical care and spay/neuter expenses

People talk about what fills their bucket... and what depletes it.

For me, one of the things that fills my bucket the most is watching a scared, shy dog begin to trust.

Asher came to us unclaimed from another part of the county. He's young—maybe a year old—and when he first arrived, he was scared and unsure of everything around him. But if you give him time, patience, and kindness, you start to see the real dog hiding underneath.

These days, I let Asher follow me around different parts of the building where he can relax without other dogs bothering him. He sticks close to the people he trusts and is slowly learning that the world isn't such a scary place.

Jasper (available for adoption), our sweet 9-year-old Shih Tzu mix whose owner passed away, enjoys spending time with him. While Asher would love a playmate, Jasper is more interested in simply hanging out and supervising.

Thankfully, Asher has found another friend in Sasha—our amazing "employee." Sasha has a special gift for helping scared animals feel safe. Whether it's cats, kittens, puppies, or dogs, she seems to know exactly what they need. We have videos of her and Asher playing together, and seeing his tail wag and his confidence grow is something that is very cool to see.

Watching dogs like Asher discover joy, trust, and friendship reminds me why we do this. It may seem like a small thing, but seeing a frightened dog come out of his shell fills my bucket every single time.

And honestly, I don't think that bucket could ever be too full.

💜🦖 166 days.

That’s how long Dale has been waiting for someone to choose him.

And somehow, through all of it, he still carries around his favorite purple dinosaur like the happiest guy in the world.

Dale is only a year old. He should be spending his days learning about couches, backyard zoomies, road trips, and bedtime routines — not growing up in rescue.

But here he is.
Still hopeful.
Still sweet.
Still waiting.

He loves attention, enjoys his outdoor time, and proudly shows off his “purple stuffy” whenever he gets the chance. 💜

Dale would do best in a home without cats 🚫🐱, but he has so much love and personality to give the right family.

166 days is far too long for a young dog to wait.

Please share Dale.
Let’s finally find him the home he deserves. 🐾

WOW. We are absolutely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of this community. ❤️

After putting out the call for kitten supplies, you all showed up in a HUGE way. Donations of wet and dry kitten food, milk replacer, litter, and other essentials have been pouring in — and we cannot thank you enough.

Every can of food, every bag of litter, and every container of formula helps us care for the many tiny lives currently depending on us. Kitten season is exhausting, emotional, and expensive… but your support reminds us we are not doing this alone.

Because of YOU, these little faces have full bellies, clean spaces, and a safe place to grow until they are ready for loving homes. 🐾

From all of us at VCA — and especially from the kittens — THANK YOU for standing beside us and helping us save lives.

(And yes… the kittens wanted to personally supervise the donations. 😉)

🐾 Memorial Day Weekend Reminder 🐾

While many of us spend the weekend with family, friends, cookouts, and lake days…there are still dogs and cats here waiting for a family of their own. ❤️

This Memorial Day weekend, if your home feels a little too quiet…maybe it’s missing a wagging tail, a happy bark, or a cat curled up beside you.

Our adoptable pets don’t care if your backyard is fancy or your plans are exciting. They just want someone to choose them.

So between the burgers, camping trips, and celebrations, consider stopping by and meeting your new best friend. You might just make this a weekend that changes two lives forever.

Happy National Rescue Dog Day from all of us at Voice for Companion Animals aka The VCA Bed & Breakfast! 🐾

Today we celebrate the dogs who:
🐶 Have mastered the art of pretending they’ve never been fed
🐶 Believe personal space is a myth
🐶 Can hear a cheese wrapper open from 3 rooms away
🐶 Somehow shed enough fur daily to make a second dog
🐶 And still look at us like we hung the moon

Rescue dogs may come with a little baggage… but so do the best people. ❤️

Whether they’re goofy, stubborn, dramatic, clingy, or convinced the mailman is a criminal mastermind — they deserve loving homes and second chances.
