Prevailing Winds Community Band

Prevailing Winds Community Band We are a Grand Haven, MI community band dedicated to providing opportunities for local musicians to play in performances throughout the Tri-Cities.

Bob Fullerton, founder/director of the PWCB, started the project in the Spring of 2008, to provide an opportunity for area musicians to perform at local events

If you are interested in playing with us, just show up. We practice on Saturdays at the GH Eagles, 10:30-11:45. See the "posts" for updates and details.

Well, my friends, after 18 years of the PWCB ...
let's start our 19th, shall we?
For starters:

Rehearsals on May 2, 9,`16, 23 and 30. GH Eagles, 10:30-11:45.
Concert on June 6. GH Memorial Airpark, 10-11am.
Auditions required. $100 participation fee. (April Fools).

I apologize for my extended intermission; some back-stage stuff has really affected my performance, but it's time to "carry on".

A few updates:

- I am sad to share the news that Dave Stroebe passed away on Tuesday, January 6. He shared his talent with the band for many years: countless trumpet solos filled with his expertise. We'll certainly notice his absence, including his terrible jokes. Special thoughts of peace to Gwen Luke, alto sax; she and Dave were a team, and I'm both honored and humbled to lead a band that provided them so many memories.

- As you may already know, my wife Julia is suffering her second bout of sarcoma. It started in October, a tumor in her upper spine (T6) strangling her spinal cord. Initially causing loss of leg control, it has mercilessly spread, despite an ever-changing approach for treatment. She has been home for 4 weeks now, with hospice visits, and ME as her 24/7 guy. Imagine that.
We were very blessed over the holidays with visits from family and friends, but things are much quieter now. Patience and peace.

- Our 2026 schedule: Honestly? I have no idea what 2026 will bring, or when we will resume rehearsals. I'll give as much notice as possible, when the time comes. Again, patience and peace.

My best to all of you entering your new year. It's been a rough start for some of us, but we will get through it, and carry on.

What a beautiful, meaningful ceremony.
Take the rest of the month off. No "April fool", either.
We will rehearse all five Saturdays in May; Airport concert on 6/7.
Please, also save July 12 and August 9, for now. Details, soon.
All three are late-morning events. A solid summer.
Also, since February 15, SEVEN people have joined our "roster".
Pencil in a "repeat" for the past several weeks! :)
Seeya on May 3.

Hello, all.
We lost a "forever fan" on Tuesday night.
Dean Nash was the Eagles "elder' who was often at rehearsals.
He'd sit at the bar, near the kitchen, sip coffee, watch the news, and update the bartender who was just trying to get ready for the day.
After rehearsal, he'd ALWAYS mention how good the band sounds.
Playing at the airport fly-in was Dean's idea, years ago. He did that.
I know you may not have known him very well, but he sure knew us. Sometimes I didn't immediately notice his presence. As we carry on, I will certainly notice his absence. The club lost a legend.

To participants:
We are honored to be a part of a very special event.
March 29, 2025. Vietnam Veterans. 50th anniversary of the war's end.
American Dunes Golf Club. 17000 Lincoln St, Grand Haven MI.
We'll start playing at 10:45 (ceremony at 11), and maybe 20 minutes after the conclusion.
(Specific music list coming soon.)
Rehearsals start on 2/15. 10:30-11:45. Grand Haven Eagles.

Our involvement in this event is very personal to me.
My sister's husband, a dog-training Vietnam Veteran, passed away on the 4th of July, 2024. This is a special chance for me to pay tribute to him, and I hope you can join us to PLAY tribute to ALL.
This is open to the public. If you know any Vietnam Veterans, please encourage them to attend.
