From Mrs. Charles -
The absolute BEST thing about teaching is being able to see the hearts of gold that our students have. I challenged the FCA and FFA members to work together and put on a "Meal Kit Drive" for the Gove County Food Pantry. Basically, they were assigned groups and each group had to put together 10 shelf stable meal kits - recipes like chicken burrito bowls, spaghetti, vegetable soup, chili & cornbread, and breakfast. Each meal kit is designed to feed at least a family of four, and each kit includes a balance of protein, grains, and fruits/vegetables to help make a well-rounded meal. A few kits are vegetarian by design, with easy options to add extra protein if needed. I am SO proud of these students and excited to say that we were able to put together 80, yes EIGHTY meal kits (and a little extra) for donation to the food pantry. If you do the math, 80 times 4 equals 320 meals donated by just 40 students. A little more math, with these donations from our students and their wonderful families, these meal kits could feed a family of four 80 times, which is lunch and supper for over a month. To say I am proud of how our students show up for their community is an understatement. When you see them, ask them about their meal kit drive and tell them thank you for their generosity and their service to our community. GO HAWKS!
1 John 3:17-18: "If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth".
Hebrews 13:16: "Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased"
