Gowanus Mutal Aid

Gowanus Mutal Aid https://www.gowanusmutualaid.org/ Welcome to Gowanus Mutual Aid! Our group is fully volunteer-run with a hyper-local focus on the Gowanus area.

We are a community of neighbors in Gowanus organizing at the grassroots level to support one another through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. We are dedicated to supporting our neighbors throughout Gowanus and meeting the needs of those in need. We do this by helping neighbors receive food and essential supplies, navigate local social services, run errands, and more. Get help or Give help

The recent lengthy power outage in Brooklyn ruined the refrigerated food and medicine of many of our neighbors. Help replenish what was lost and lend some much-needed relief in the midst of this brutal winter! Donate @ bit.ly/gmafund

Private utilities companies are consistently raising rates while failing to invest in hardening their equipment against the elements. This led to many of our neighbors having to miss work, throw out spoiled food and medication, and incur unexpected expenses.

When systemic support falters, community-based mutual aid is a critical lifeline. Help our neighbors recover from this historic storm and resulting infrastructure breakdown.

We have so much to be grateful for. Thanks to your generosity (in time, money and supplies), we have been able to support to our neighbors with the programs, resources and material goods they need most. We would also like to thank a number of partners who have directly supported these initiatives.

We owe a deep debt of gratitude to Gowanus Wine Studio & Tasting Table for hosting us in their space around the corner from a new family shelter, allowing us to provide one-on-one support to newly arrived asylum seekers.

Now in its 3rd season, our CSA program thrives through the amazing support of dedicated volunteers. Thanks to Lincoln Restler for helping us with needed funding.

Brooklyn Diaper Project has been an extremely vital and valued partner of ours for the last few years. All babies deserve food, housing, and clean diapers—and no parent should have to choose between purchasing essentials. Visit Brooklyn Diaper Project to learn more.

Hot nutritious meals for immigrants, supplementing the inadequate food provided by their shelter, were donated, prepared and distributed with love by Congregation Beth Elohim, Flatbush Jewish Center, PS58, Shelsky's Brooklyn Bagels, PS 124 Brooklyn PTA, CHiPS Soup Kitchen & Women's Shelter, Tacombi, One Love Community Fridge, Antojitos, White Maize, Old First Brooklyn, Poppy's Brooklyn, Cozie's Pizza & Cafe, Brooklyn New School PS146

Workforce development, from free classes and training to scholarships, were generously provided by kcmcleaning.com and Carroll Gardens Association
