West Valley Trail Alliance

West Valley Trail Alliance We are avid mountain bikers dedicated to trail advocacy, education, design and maintenance in the Estrella and White Tank Mountains

West Valley Trail Alliance was originally a small group of mountain bikers in the Estrella Mountain Ranch community. We wanted quality local trails but had to work with local land owners to get them. As the west valley grew others began to seek out the same in the White Tank mountains. It became clear we could learn from one another's experiences and there was a need to provide a unified voice for

mountain bikers and trail enthusiasts. In November 2015 we became a chapter as part of the International Mountain Bicycling Association. This has allowed us to work under a unified voice and continue to advocate for mountain bike trails in the Estrella and White Tank mountains of western Maricopa County. We have members involved with Newland Communities, DMB, Maricopa Parks, Goodyear, Buckeye, and the White Tanks Conservancy. We will continue to promote mountain biking and trail access for all via political, educational, and hands on trail work.

Yesterday, June 6th, was National Trails Day. As an all volunteer organization with a board that is as busy outside of advocacy as we are speaking up for west valley trails, we didn't have the ability to create an event. We are however still speaking on your behalf as Estrella, White Tank, and Pyramid Peak continue seeing more and more users.

We look forward to hosting rides and meetings as we continue to evolve as a board. 10 years of advocating is a challenge. We're looking forward to 10 more as the valley continues to grow.

We hope you all had a great holiday weekend. Tell us about your exciting rides! Did you stay local, or venture out?

We know there hasn't been a lot of news regarding trails lately so here's a little update. It's been a slow grind as usual unfortunately.
1. Estrella Mountain Regional Park master plan: A single stakeholders meeting was held a few weeks ago. We we're far and away the most knowledgeable and outspoken organization. There's a disappointing use of cell phone data to track trail usage by the master planning company. We've offered to help solicit better ways to demonstrate what trails are used and where the need is. Hopefully that translates to more trails that utize the natural elevation available. Maricopa County Parks
2. Pyramid Peak. We're aware of the gate. Not a lot of details yet. If we learn anything certain about access we will pass it along. Remember, this is going to be a very long process. Please help keep mountain biking in a good light. It's an uphill battle as is.
3. San Tan Regional Park has been swapped out in place of Lake Pleasant to be included in the master planning update. We don't know why but it's an abrupt change that was not communicated to us. If you ride there, you best get involved as they already had a stakeholders meeting.
4. Go ride!!!! It's still nice at night and in the morning.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Where did everybody ride?

Meet the Board
For our last Meet the Board, we’re pleased to introduce Brian Murphy. When the West Valley needed an advocacy group for its trails, Brian stepped up—bringing unwavering passion, steady patience in working with land managers, and the ability to get things done despite a busy life outside the board. We’re grateful for all he does.

It's Monday again. Back to the grind for most of us. How were your weekend rides? Tell us where you rode!

For this week’s Meet the Board, we’re fired up to introduce Ken — a true West Side OG. With over 10 years on the board, Ken has been a driving force behind the scenes and out on the trails.
He’s played a major role in bringing the community together through events like two AZ State Championship races, multiple Beerduros, and making sure there’s always cold beer waiting at the annual Dawn to Dusk race.
When he’s not helping put on unforgettable events, Ken is out doing what he loves most — setting up and leading awesome rides on his home trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch and all across the Valley. His passion for riding and community is what keeps the stoke alive.
