Did you know the people who approve your electric rates are elected? The Arizona Corporation Commission has five members, and two seats are on your ballot this year.

Right now, APS has asked the Commission for a rate increase of about 14%, roughly $20 more a month for the average household.

Whatever you think about that request, this is a race worth knowing about. Don't skip the bottom of your ballot.

Down-Ballot Minute: school measures 🍎 Bonds and overrides (usually numbered in the 400s) fund the schools in our own neighborhoods, and many simply continue funding that's already in place. Following Save Our Schools Arizona, we recommend YES on every school bond and override on West Valley ballots, including Agua Fria, Dysart, Liberty, Litchfield, Littleton, Saddle Mountain, Tolleson Union and Union Elementary. Check your sample ballot to see which ones are yours. 🗳️🌵

Dani Sterbinsky and her husband, also a Navy veteran, are raising a young daughter. Like so many Arizona families, they've felt the squeeze of childcare costs firsthand.

It's not just childcare. Arizona households now need about $87,000 a year to afford a typical home.

Dani is running for Congress to make childcare affordable, help first-time homebuyers, and lower prescription drug costs. She knows these aren't talking points. They're the monthly budget.

In the 2022 midterm, about 1.5 million registered Arizona voters didn't cast a ballot. That's nearly as many people as live in the entire city of Phoenix.

Today is the last day to request a mail ballot. If you're registered, you have options: vote by mail, vote early in person through Oct. 30, or vote on Election Day.

Let's not leave 1.5 million voices on the table this time.

Ballot Q&A: Can I drop off my early ballot at any location? Yes! 🗳️ Any official drop box or voting location in your county works, and in Maricopa County that's every vote center. About 40% of Arizona's water comes from the Colorado River. This year, our state is already going without 18% of its share.

Here's the bigger deal: the rules for sharing the river expire at the end of 2026. One federal proposal floated this year could cut Arizona's river water by as much as 77%.

The people we elect this fall, from Congress to the statehouse, will be in the room for what comes next. That's a lot riding on one ballot. Let's fill it out.

Meet Dani Sterbinsky, GATHER's endorsed candidate for U.S. House in Arizona's 9th District.

Dani is a Navy veteran who served as an Operations Specialist aboard the destroyer USS Bainbridge. She's a certified HR professional and a working mom who knows exactly what Arizona families are up against.

She isn't a career politician. She's running because she believes leadership means solving problems, not chasing headlines.
