A Goliad man would help when Goliad would have heavy rains which could cause a debris choke point, especially around the bridge leading to La Bahia. He would jump in the river and attach chains to the trees that washed down and became stuck under the bridge. The men on the bridge would then pull the chains and remove the trees
Once he found a canon and attempted to wrap the chains around it but it was too heavy for the men to hoist it up to the bridge. This story was confirmed by some of the men who were there when the canon was found.

250 years ago women were washing clothes in this creek in the western part of Goliad County. A heavy rain above the creek caused a flash flood that washed several women away and they drown. The creek's name was then changed to Mujerero. Which means "the womanizer" because it took their women away.

Can you read this stone? To the sacred memory of my mother Jemima Johnson. Born in Fairfield South Carolina in 1831. Died (in Goliad ) 1912.
Think about her living through slave times, the Civil War, moving to Texas. From horse and wagon to cars.; candles to electric lights; maybe even phones. Wow!
