Spark Rescue Santa Barbara is a non profit 501c (3) charity rescue organization whose focus is finding permanent homes for disadvantaged dogs and cats in southern Ca.

We do not have a shelter, but are foster based only. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit charity animal rescue organization, founded in February 2014, in Santa Barbara Ca. We are a foster based rescue that relies on people opening their home and hearts to saving animals in need. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara provides:

Rescue, foster care, veterinary care, and sterilization for animals in county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Rehoming for animals surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for their pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued pets to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators. Foster homes to provide our rescues with a loving home environment. We believe a dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are part of a family then to be cared for in a noisy kennel surrounded by sick and barking dogs. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara's Vision
Our vision is to end euthanasia in Southern Ca by bringing adoptable pets (that were slated for euthanasia) into our program for social rehabilitation and re-homing to permanent loving homes. To educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering their pets! To provide help for those who cannot afford to have their pets altered. To sway our government to have harsh penalties for people that continue to breed their pets without a breeders license. We want to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara's vision in the near future is to acquire land and have the ability to rescue and house as many animals as possible. A place where the animals will be free to roam and socialize but still be in a family environment. Where potential adopters can come visit our rescues. Where volunteers can come together and give the rescues as much love and attention as possible. If you are able to foster an animal in need please contact Spark Rescue Santa Barbara. We do require a commitment from you to house and care for the animal until the animal is placed in their forever home. We do understand that many people love animals but cannot afford to donate but may have items they are no longer using we are always in need of collars, harnesses, leashes, blankets, beds, potty pads, toys, crates etc. Your donation is tax deductible. Meet Lennon — a tiny, lively 4-pound charmer looking for a soft and thoughtful forever home. 🐾
This six-month-old puppy has a big personality packed into a very small package. Bright, playful, and full of spark, Lennon loves gentle interaction, soft toys, and being part of the household action in his own way. He’s the ultimate lap-sized companion who brings so much joy while taking up very little space.
Lennon is impressively smart. He’s about 90% housebroken (yay!), already knows sit, stay, and come, is crate trained, and sleeps through the night.
He does best in a calm, careful home that puts his safety first so he can enjoy life to the fullest. The right match will keep him active and happy while protecting those little bones. He’s an ideal fit for a quiet adult household — no jumping on or off furniture and no rough play. He would do well as an only dog or with another gentle dog around 10 pounds (an older, slower companion works great too). Short, supervised, low-impact enrichment and plenty of gentle affection are perfect for him.
Lennon is a companion dog who flourishes with attentive people who are happy to adjust the environment and routine so he can be his lively, curious self. He deserves a thoughtful home that keeps him safe while letting him enjoy the simple joys of being a dog.

Every animal we place has already faced so much uncertainty — and all we want is for their next home to be the one that truly lasts. ❤️
Our careful, foster-based process keeps our return rate under 1% because these dogs and cats deserve the best chance at a safe, loving family. Our amazing volunteer adoption coordinator, Doris, works tirelessly seven days a week to help make those perfect matches.
We are so grateful for the dedicated volunteers who give their time, hearts, and homes to this work. And we hold onto the hope that soon we’ll have a place of our own to call home — where we can keep caring for the animals who need us most.

Meet Dexter — the 14-pound bundle of joy who will steal your heart in about 3 seconds flat.
This 2-to-3-year-old Bichon mix is pure sweetness wrapped in fluffy cuteness. He came to us after being abandoned in his backyard. when his family moved.

Dexter loves playtime with other pups, is obsessed with his toys, and throws the most enthusiastic zoomies around the yard. One minute he’s chasing a ball with pure joy, the next he’s ready for snuggles. Dexter is incredibly well-mannered, crate trained, house trained, and leash trained — a true little gentleman who’s also full of playful energy.
When he first came to us he was still figuring out his manners and marking, but after his neuter and a little guidance, that chapter is closed. Now he’s ready for his forever chapter.
Dexter would thrive in a home with another young, playful dog to be his buddy, or with a family who’s ready to make him a full-fledged member of the pack. He’s the kind of dog who lights up a room just by being in it.

🐾Meet Cotton🐾

Discarded in a park in Bakersfield, California at four weeks old. This adorable now 14 week-old male Keeshond mix ( best guess) weighs just 6 pounds but his personality is absolutely huge! Cotton is an affectionate little dynamo who is all love.

He has excellent recall, knows to potty outside, and is crate trained. Once he completes his puppy vaccinations, we’re confident leash training will be a breeze—Cotton is eager to learn!

He’s quiet, playful, and incredibly sweet. Cotton loves playing with other dogs and is friendly with cats, too. Whether you’re looking for an amazing companion or a second dog, Cotton could be your perfect match.

Today we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the many Native nations whose knowledge and care for the land long predates us.
In Santa Barbara County, we acknowledge the Chumash people and their enduring relationship with this coastal land, the Channel Islands, and the animals and ecosystems that call it home. Their traditions of stewardship remind us that caring for animals and the earth go hand in hand.

🐾Meet sweet little Tilly 🐶✨
This adorable 8-month-old Poodle-Maltese-Havanese mix (our best guess!) is only 9 pounds of pure love and fluff. She’s already crate trained, house trained, and walks beautifully on leash — making her the perfect companion for so many homes.
Tilly is excellent with other dogs and has been around cats, so she’s ready to fit right into a family with furry friends. She’s playful, affectionate, and has that irresistible little personality that will melt your heart the second you meet her.

🐾 Meet Lennon The Adorable Hedgehog Lookalike! 🐾

At just 16 weeks old and a tiny 3 pounds (he’ll likely top out around 6 pounds as an adult), Lennon is a precious terrier-Chihuahua mix who’s ready to steal hearts — and find his forever home!
A little over four weeks ago, this brave little guy broke his toes while playing with his sisters. He’s since been medically cleared and is healing beautifully… with the cutest little skip in his step that makes him even more extra special. 💕
Lennon loves roughhousing with his sister Lyric, has the sweetest manners, and is quiet, playful, and pure sunshine in a scruffy package.

This sweet 2–3 year old Bichon mix weighs just 14 pounds and is pure love. Dexter thrives on being close to his person—he’s affectionate, playful, and wonderfully easy-going. He’s excellent with other dogs, walks nicely on leash, and is house-trained, making him a fantastic companion or second dog. (He’s not a fan of cats, so a cat-free home is ideal.)

This 2-year-old terrier/poodle (maybe schnauzer/poodle?) mix was pulled from a high-kill shelter and has one very clear life mission: belly rubs. All of them. Immediately. Forever.
She’s already crate trained, house trainedd leash trained!
She’s happy with another dog or as an only child, as long as the belly rub schedule stays aggressive.
Jovi is a little shy at first (she’s still deciding if you’re worthy of the full belly-up experience), but once she trusts you, prepare for maximum zoomies and zero personal space. Her forever family is out there… 💕
