AZ Stormwater Outreach for Regional Municipalities AZSTORM.ORG has been around since 2002. In December 2005, STORM filed for not-for-profit status with the Arizona Corporation Commission.

This educational outreach is a non-profit in Arizona, promoting tips, solutions, and examples of preventing stormwater pollution. STORM was founded in 2002, in response to federal regulations requiring certain municipalities to implement measures to educate the public on ways to protect the quality of stormwater runoff. The trade names "STormwater Outreach for Regional Municipalities (STORM)" and

"STORM" were filed with the Secretary of State. STORM officially became a not-for-profit charitable organization in February 2006 and developed a set of bylaws to guide the organization. This status allows STORM to operate as a charitable organization and enables tax deductible contributions to promote stormwater pollution prevention.

Stormwater systems are Arizona’s unsung heroes.

They don’t just handle rain — they protect our neighborhoods from flooding, keep our rivers clean, and even reduce erosion in fragile desert soils. 🌵💧

From catch basins to retention basins, every piece of the system works together to manage powerful monsoon storms. And here in Arizona, they’re designed specifically for the desert — doubling as parks, trails, and even wildlife habitats. 🏞️✨

👉 Next time you see a storm drain, a basin, or a desert wash, you’ll know: it’s all part of the system keeping our communities safe.

🌊 Tsunamis make headlines… but stormwater is a silent threat at home.

When we see devastating images of tsunamis, we’re reminded how quickly water can destroy entire communities. Here in Maricopa County, we may not face tsunamis, but stormwater carries its own risks—flooding our streets, polluting our desert waterways, and impacting our environment and safety.

💧 Stormwater can pick up trash, oil, chemicals, and bacteria as it moves through our neighborhoods. That pollution ends up in our washes, rivers, and groundwater—the same natural systems we rely on.

👉 What can you do?

Keep gutters and storm drains clear of debris.

Never dump oil, paint, or chemicals outside.

Pick up pet waste and litter so it doesn’t get swept away.

Plant native landscaping to slow runoff.

We can’t stop the rain, but we can stop the pollution. Just like coastal communities prepare for the worst, we can protect our desert home one small action at a time.
