Mountain Valley Greenhouse This client-centered program implements specific vocational goals for 23 adults enrolled in Mountain Valley services.

The Mountain Valley greenhouse while being a viable business, whose retail sales are $20,000 annually also, provides a horticultural therapy program for Mountain Valley clientele. The program tracks client progress in realistic terms; their skills, aptitudes and abilities, capacity to engage in gainful employment and their physical capacities and limitations. The ultimate objective is for clients

to attain employment in the community. The vocational work the individuals engage in is to create high quality plants and plant products to sell at reasonable prices. The clients, with guidance from greenhouse staff start the plants from seeds, transplant them in cell packs and pots, and maintain them throughout the year. They also participate in growing and harvesting vegetables and herbs that are sold locally. The third area of community involvement and service to the Glenwood Spring community is the Going Green program with Sopris Elementary school. The goal is for students to work with MVDS members to grow food for the cafeteria at Sopris Elementary. Last year, more than 400 students were taking care of the plants in the greenhouse. Every class in grades K through 5 gardened two or three times a week. In science classes, students were using worms to compost the soil. This year the number of student are projected to be six hundred.

On November 26th, Mountain Valley Greenhouse and Mountain Valley Developmental Services will be consolidating social media accounts! Moving forward, the MVG pages will be disabled, and we will only be posting on the MVDS pages. This is the LAST WEEK FOR FRESH VEGGIES at Mountain Valley Greenhouse! We have the following:
- pie pumpkins
- a few carving pumpkins!
- acorn squash
- honeynut squash
- summer squash and zucchini
- lemon cucumbers (lots! they make awesome pickles!) and a few big japanese cucumbers too
- onions
- green tomatoes (great for frying or pickling)
- bell peppers and hot peppers

Come on by! Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm (extended hours this week to try and move more veggies out! :) )

Jeane loves using the broadfork!! We kept our veggie rows covered until it was time to plant, but that doesn’t stop the bindweed. If you know, you know! Broadforking is a great way to loosen the soil without breaking your back - then we can pull out as much of the bindweed and their roots as possible. Going into this bed will be peppers, summer squash, onions, flowers, and more!

David wants everyone to know that we will be at the Glenwood Springs Downtown Market this summer! We will be there starting June 24th, and every following Tuesday evening from 4PM to 8PM. Pictures here are our garlic and tomato beds!
