Everyday Citizen is a civics initiative by George Shadrack Kamanda in partnership with the Necessity Firm, aims to reimagine citizenship as an active role rather than merely a legal status. The initiative seeks to empower every Sierra Leonean (with the four Cs of civic engagement: civic knowledge, civic value, civic rights, and civic responsibilities) to participate in democratic governance at all
levels—community, local, and national—regardless of their social, economic, tribal, or political affiliations or interests. Mission
Everyday Citizen aims to re-inspire a new generation of Sierra Leoneans to reimagine 'citizen' as an action verb and reclaim our collective power as a citizenry. Everyday Citizen seeks to accelerate the role and impact of civic education in national development, rebuild our civic ideals, and restore our sense of citizenship for a more inclusive and sustainable future. WHO WE ARE
The Everyday Citizen Initiative is a civics accelerator envisioned to build a dynamic community of responsible and ethical citizens, with the goal of driving positive change in Sierra Leone's national discourse. Everyday Citizen welcome partnerships and collaboration with civic and business hubs, entrepreneurs, technology pioneers, educators, advocates, and government institutions. Aligned with the Necessity Firm’s mission of shaping responsible citizens through mentorship and advocacy, we aim to foster cooperation and partnerships among communities, citizens, and government in the national public interest. We are united by the belief that Sierra Leone’s pressing challenges present an opportunity to rebuild our civic ideals and restore our declining sense of citizenship. One, reimagining citizenship as an active role, not just a legal status, to empower every Sierra Leonean—regardless of social, economic, tribal, or political affiliations or interests—to actively shape our nation’s future. Two, getting more Sierra Leoneans civically educated and engaged in their community and democratic governance processes following the four Cs of civic engagement: Civic knowledge. Civic responsibility. Inspiration
Now more than ever we need everyone to be an everyday citizen. Our Core Principles
Civility. Ethical Leadership. Service. Responsible citizenship.
