AECP hosted a rare East Coast gathering last week at the Lexington, MA home of Harry and Katrina Glorikian, bringing together nearly 25 friends and supporters for an evening focused on expanding sight‑saving care in Armenia. The evening started with a warm video message from AECP Founder and President Dr. Roger Ohanesian, who honored longtime supporter Leon Simonian, celebrating his 95th birthday. Guests enjoyed traditional Armenian cuisine and fine wine donated by before hearing from AECP Vice President Dr. John Hovanesian.

Dr. Hovanesian began with a touch of humor, sharing that he and Harry Glorikian are proud members of the “BABE - Bald Armenians with Blue Eyes” club. Attendees learned about AECP’s progress over the past 33 years from volunteer medical missions to a national system of training, modern clinics, and sustainable care. Highlights included the Mobile Eye Hospital serving rural communities for more than two decades, the near‑elimination of retinopathy of prematurity under the leadership of Dr. Tom Lee, and the establishment of ten regional eye clinics and diagnostic centers that bring advanced eye care closer to patients across Armenia.

The evening concluded with a moving video of a young patient whose restored sight underscored the human impact behind AECP’s mission.

AECP extends heartfelt thanks to Harry and Katrina Glorikian for graciously hosting the event and to Khachen Wines for generously donating the evening’s wine.

AECP joins Armenians around the world to celebrate and honor a nation that has rebuilt, risen, and continued to move forward with courage many times throughout its history.

Our mission to ensure access to quality eye care for every Armenian and to eliminate preventable blindness is rooted in the same values that define our independence: hope, perseverance, and a commitment to a brighter future.

As we serve communities across Armenia, train the next generation of physicians, and expand access to sight‑saving care for children, adults and elderly, we carry forward the belief that a nation with healthy vision is a strong nation.

May this day inspire us all to continue building a future worthy of our people and our heritage.

Happy Independence Day, Armenia!

A small glimpse of what AECP can accomplish with your support! Over the years, Albert developed advanced cataracts. By the time he visited one of our eye care facilities in Armenia, he had gone completely blind. All that changed when Albert received the surgery he needed thanks to AECP. ❤️💙🧡

The Armenian EyeCare Project is launching a nationwide eye care training program for Family Medicine Doctors across Armenia, addressing the growing need to strengthen the knowledge, skills and capacities of FMDs in eye care.

The program aims to strengthen professional collaboration and improve the quality of primary eye care services, helping bridge gaps in access to specialized ophthalmic care. This is especially important considering that family medicine doctors often serve as the first - and sometimes only - link between patients and specialized healthcare providers.

To ensure sustainable and long-term impact, AECP is delighted to collaborate with Health Network for Armenia within this important initiative. A key milestone of the partnership was the recent Training session led by HENAR specialists, focused on enhancing the teaching and mentorship skills of the program’s future trainers and AECP collaborating ophthalmologists.

Participants included faculty lecturers from the Dean of Ophthalmology of Yerevan State Medical University, AECP regional ophthalmologists, as well as leading specialists from the Ophthalmological center after S.V. Malayan. The session introduced modern medical education methodologies, competency-based teaching approaches, case-based learning, and evaluation tools that participants will continue applying in their future educational practice, creating a lasting impact on ophthalmology education in Armenia.

The Armenian EyeCare Project highly values this meaningful collaboration and the shared commitment to strengthening healthcare education and improving access to quality eye care nationwide.

"What's in it for me?"

Physicians who travel to Armenia with AECP, and who continue to donate their time and expertise for the sake of providing quality eye care in the country, get asked this question often. Over 30 years later, the answer is the same. ❤️💙🧡

As we prepare to celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, let us be reminded that this is a celebration of the women who shape our lives with strength, compassion, and endless love. This year, honor your mom in a way that reflects the very heart of who she is by helping another mother protect her child’s sight.

A sponsored eye‑care service through Armenian EyeCare Project becomes a meaningful tribute and a way to say thank you to your mom while ensuring families in Armenia receive the vision care they otherwise could not access.

Whether it’s supporting a child’s eye exam, funding a sight‑saving treatment, or helping bring care to a remote village, your gift creates real and lasting impact for mothers and children across Armenia.

Celebrate your mom with a gesture that brings hope and possibility to another family.

💖 In honor of Mom, sponsor a service and give the Gift of Sight.
