Arizona Theatre Matters

Arizona Theatre Matters By making accessibility an artistic foundation, we create theatre that is deeply inclusive, boldly experimental, and undeniably for all.

Arizona Theatre Matters blazes trails of exceptional, universally accessible stories that weave connections and understanding across multidimensional populations. Arizona Theatre Matters (ATM) shapes theatre from the substance of accessibility itself, ensuring storytelling reaches everyone—regardless of ability, income, or location. OUR BACKGROUND
Since its founding in 2012, ATM has produced 45 fu

ll-scale productions, pioneering an approach where access is not an afterthought but the creative engine of every performance. When the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered live theatre in 2020, ATM launched a YouTube channel—what began as a crisis response became a portal to the world. Today, ATM’s digital platform has over 114,000 subscribers and more than 1.3 million views across 194 countries, delivering captioned, Artistic Sign Language-integrated, and audio-described performances to audiences worldwide. Our work removes barriers to participation, offering free, high-quality theatre to those historically excluded—Deaf and Blind audiences, aging populations, people in care-based settings, and communities without access to live theatre. As we approach our 15th anniversary, ATM continues to expand the boundaries of theatre, proving that access is not a limitation but a force for innovation. Whether onstage or online, our work contributes to the national and global conversation about equity, imagination, and cultural participation.

Until I was 17, I thought everybody’s father did that.
Some stories are hard to hear but they must be heard.

This raw moment from our digital stage confronts the silence surrounding child abuse and trauma, giving voice to those who were told to stay quiet.

At Arizona Theatre Matters, we believe in using theater as a tool for healing, awareness, and social justice.
Every monologue, every scene, is a step toward breaking cycles of pain through art, empathy, and conversation.

“I don’t want you to fix it. I want to be understood.”

Some stories are too painful to tell, yet they need to be acknowledged. This scene is a raw reminder of the power of listening, empathy, and creating safe spaces for voices that have long been silenced.
