Visit the Noyes Arts Garage on April 11 at 1 PM for the NJ Monuments to Migration and Labor: The Exhibition Opening! South Jersey's section is crafted by Immanuel Oni, with a mind to the region’s dispersed geography and population centers. Oni has acquired a bus that will serve as the mobile base for his monument installation. The bus will be outfitted with a retractable sail – becoming in effect a sailbus. The form, while whimsical, references the experiences of laborers working on the boats that seeded and harvested oysters on the Delaware Bay, and the buses and trucks that transported thousands of migrant farmworkers to the region every spring and summer. “Flagship” will bear flags that Oni has created with community stakeholders at public events and display their sense of place – as seen through the lens of migration and labor. “Flagship” will double as a mobile museum, exhibiting and sharing, as it moves around South Jersey, the oral histories, images, and other archival materials and objects that partners have provided.
