We launched our High School Bigs program in January. Under the supervision of Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters, six “Big Sisters" and five "Little Sisters" were paired. These groups met throughout the spring semester, establishing mentor-mentee relationships.

Today, we celebrated the school year ending with pizza and play time at a local park!

At Rotary International, May is Youth Service Month and we can't be more proud of the students that are part of the IBHS Interact Club and the Peoria High School Interact Club.

Interact is a Rotary sponsored club for ages 12 to 18, typically at a high school or middle school. Interact clubs are also involved in community, campus and international service projects.

Students from these clubs also have the opportunity to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) each spring. RYLA is a leadership development program for young people who want to learn new skills, build their confidence, and have fun. In our district, RYLA is a weekend event.

Proud of our Interactors!

Congratulations to the Sterling Merrit award winners who were recognized tonight at the awards banquet! The five members from IBHS were Lauren Bailey, Chloe Eeten, Sophia Gordon, McKenzie Nutter, and Mya Vaughn! Also, congratulations to Mya Vaughn who received the Outstanding Student Award!

“In 2007, Camp Dallas cofounders Dwayne and Patty Atherton lost their son to su***de. He was 19 years old. The Camp Dallas mission is to guide hearts to healing through the power of nature. We embrace the outdoors as a catalyst for mental wellness, nurturing resilience and hope in every individual we serve. We view Camp Dallas not merely as a program, but as a promise: that every individual deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background, family circumstances, or life experiences. No one should ever feel too lost, invisible, burdened, insignificant, or unworthy of love.”

The camp hosts hundreds of kids from organizations like the Dream Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters every day of the summer.

We are proud to present Camp Dallas with a $700 donation made through our Float Friday fundraiser last fall. It was our pleasure volunteering on site this morning. Our members planted wild flowers, painted picnic benches, and helped with grounds maintenance. After the work finished, Dwayne and his colleagues treated us to s’mores, kayaking, and fishing.

Thank you Rotary Club of Peoria for hosting and participating in speed networking with us! This was a great opportunity for our members to work on their communication skills in a professional setting.

Another great visit to Midwest Food Bank! We recently helped package crackers that will be distributed to area food pantries.
