Next Wednesday, come out to UK’s EREC (Ecological Recreation and EducationCenter) for a free educational event. Attendees will enjoy a presentation by Caroline Kane from the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves and learn how trees in your yard and urban environments host beneficial insects such as solitary bees, moths, and more. The KAA is so excited to be hosting another ISA TRAQ program. Dr. Fountain started off the 2nd day of instruction outdoors to review tree biology. We are grateful for the Shelby County Cooperative Extension Office as our host location.

What will you learn?

Physiological response from pruning decision-making guidelines implementing current standards, biomechanical impacts of pruning and prescriptive pruning using written specifications.

What will you experience?

Pruning prescriptions and implementation on trees of various development stages, young trees, early establishment and medium-aged trees.

Welcome Paula as one of our newest KAA Board of Directors!

Paula Sumner began her career in arboriculture through a strong foundation in agriculture and education, which sparked a passion for tree care, community outreach, and long-term land stewardship. Based in Lexington, Kentucky, she co-owns Estate Tree Service with her husband, where they focus on responsible, science-based tree care practices, including proactive Plant Health Care (PHC).

Paula is serving as the marketing chairperson of the Kentucky Arborist Association and is currently working toward earning her ISA Certified Arborist credential in 2026. She is passionate about educating the public on the importance of proper tree care and creating pathways for the next generation of arborists through mentorship, training, and accessible educational opportunities across Kentucky.
