Phyllis was a woman whose compassion, dedication, and strength touched countless lives. She was truly the Florence Nightingale of nurses—her entire life was devoted to caring for and serving others. Her journey in nursing began in 1978, when she graduated from the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Delta Vocational School in Marked Tree, Arkansas. But her commitment to growth and excellence did
n’t stop there. In 1992, she earned her Registered Nurse degree from North Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas. Then, always striving to expand her knowledge and leadership, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, completing it in 2002. Phyllis began her nursing career at Woodland Manor in Siloam Springs, where she demonstrated the deep empathy and care that would define her work. Later, she joined McKee Foods as a Registered Nurse, and through her dedication and leadership, she was promoted to Employee Health Services Administrator. But retirement was not the end of her story. Just a few months later, Phyllis returned to school at Oklahoma State University, earning her administrator’s license and taking on the role of administrator at Autumn Place in Grove, Oklahoma. She continued to lead with grace and kindness until her final retirement in 2018. Phyllis was not only a caregiver but also a comedian in disguise—she had a special talent for making people laugh, even on the toughest days. Her humor was a gift, bringing lightness and joy wherever she went. If you ever needed a quick smile or a good laugh, Phyllis was the person to turn to. She could brighten a room with her wit and warmth, reminding us all that sometimes, laughter truly is the best medicine. Her life was a testament to service, resilience, and lifelong learning. Her work touched many, and her legacy of compassion and humor will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. We are grateful for her life, her love, and her laughter. We would like to personally thank Nurse Phyllis’s family for entrusting our organization with the privilege and honor of paying tribute to such an amazing woman and nurse. Please join us in keeping her family members, friends, and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers at this time. A heartfelt thank you to Nurse Phyllis’s Honor Guard; Rebecca Tracy (Northwest Chapter Leader), Cindi Baker and Susan McGowan.
