I had a message asking to share this with you. I looked it over and noticed that there is a unique opportunity for those who are interested. The first Mรฒd was held in Oban. Now, I have only just heard of this celebration so I cannot promise Clan MacDougall Society of North America will have a presence there in 2025, but obviously we will be exploring opportunities for the future.
This year, at the Third Annual Chesapeake Mรฒd, guests will have the honor of welcoming Ryan Johnston, the 2024 Royal National Mรฒd gold medal winners. They will join everyone at the Third Annual Chespeake Mรฒd, courtesy of The Gaelic Society An Comunn Gaidhealach, in Scotland.
What is a Mรฒd, you ask? Well, I asked that too and thankfully, there is an answer. I personally love that our Clan's seat is mentioned.
Originally a Mรฒd referred to a court held by a Scottish Gaelic chief or lord for settling disputes over rent and other matters. Today it refers to a competition in Scottish Gaelic song, poetry, and prose.
The first modern Royal National Mรฒd, the premier Gร idhlig cultural event in Scotland, was held in 1892 in the town of Oban.
It's the Third Annual Chesapeake Mรฒd!
Registration is open for the 2025 Chesapeake Mรฒd, a celebration of Scottish Gaelic culture. We are excited to expand the categories of competitions this year, and we are excited to welcome to the 2025 Chesapeake Mรฒd: Ryan Johnston, the 2024 Royal National Mรฒd men's gold medal winner. It will be a unique opportunity for attendees. Ryan will be teaching Gaelic singing, as well as performing. Read more and register below.
