Let’s be clear about who we are and why Texas Shoreline exists.

We didn’t start this organization to make good businesses look bad. We started it because we
love the Texas coast-and we refuse to stay quiet while unnecessary single-use plastic continues
pouring into the very waters that sustain our communities, wildlife and coastal economy.

We clean beaches. We educate. We raise awareness.

But we also challenge the system.

That means asking businesses-especially those that profit from the Gulf-to take responsibility
for the waste they create. Supporting a business does not mean pretending every practice is
acceptable. You can love a place and still expect it to do better.

When we point out a problem, it isn’t personal. It’s about the plastic cup, the bottle, the bag and
the straw that may be used for a few minutes but remain in our environment for generations.

Some people won’t like our approach. That’s okay. Texas Shoreline was never created to be
comfortable, popular or silent.

We will recognize businesses that step forward. We will work with anyone genuinely willing to
improve. But we will also keep speaking plainly when change is needed.

We don’t just raise awareness-we challenge the system.

If you profit from the Gulf, give back to the Gulf.

THEY HEARD US.

This is the first real media coverage of Texas Shoreline-and it didn’t come from a ribbon
cutting ceremony, a press release or somebody posing for a picture.

It came from Melisa and me walking onto the North Jetty, seeing an absolute disgrace,
grabbing our equipment and dragging two heavy bags of garbage back through the Texas
heat.

That’s Texas Shoreline.

REAL WORK. REAL ACCOUNTABILITY. REAL CHANGE.

Thank you to Chronicle Gulf Coast reporter Chris Gray for recognizing the problem, telling the story
and helping our voice reach farther.

The cans are coming. A major North Jetty cleanup is coming. And the movement to protect the
Texas coast is getting louder.

God opened another door.

Our first media coverage.

This weekend, our family went to Texas City to watch our two daughters complete their first
triathlon. Afterward, we celebrated with seafood at one of our favorite places on the Texas coast.

We love the food. We love the view.

But this is what ONE table looked like after ONE meal.

A mountain of single-use plastic-served just feet from the water.

Now multiply this by every table, every day, every week, every month. Then multiply it by
waterfront restaurants all along the Texas coast.

This isn’t convenience anymore. It’s careless-and it’s completely unnecessary.

You cannot build your business around the beauty of the Gulf while contributing to the plastic problem which is destroying it.

There are better options. It’s time to use them.

If you profit off the Gulf, give back to the Gulf.

UPDATE: This clean was deceiving. Our two large bags full were almost all plastic this time so the grand total collected was 33.1 pounds. That’s a lot of single use plastic removed from the jetty!!

CALLING ALL NORTH JETTY FISHERMEN -LET’S CLEAN THIS PLACE UP.

Melisa and I headed to Galveston Sunday for a quick getaway. We stayed at Hotel Lucine,
enjoyed a couple of cocktails overlooking the Gulf, and stopped at Benno’s for some good
Food.

Monday morning, we crossed over to Bolivar to handle a little business and stopped by the
North Jetty.

What we found pi**ed me off.

Plastic bottles were everywhere -piled up and deliberately shoved between the rocks.
There was plenty of glass out there too, along with cups, bait containers, fishing debris
and entire 12-pack cartons jammed into the cracks.

A lot of that trash didn’t wash in with the tide or blow in from somewhere else. People
came out here to fish, enjoyed everything this place offers, and then treated it like their
personal dumpster.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

If you can carry a full 12-pack onto the jetty, you can carry the empty carton and bottles
back. If you can bring bait, drinks and fishing supplies, you can take your garbage home.
There is no excuse for leaving plastic and glass beside the water.

We hadn’t planned a cleanup and didn’t have much time, but we couldn’t simply walk away.
We grabbed our pickers, worked farther down the jetty than usual and filled two heavy bags.
Then we dragged them back in this Texas heat.

Now Texas Shoreline is going back for a full North Jetty cleanup.

I’m calling on the fishermen who use this place, the Bolivar community, local businesses and
anybody who gives a damn about the Texas coast:

COME HELP US CLEAN IT.

Most fishermen respect the water and places they fish. We need those fishermen standing
behind us, setting the example and helping us hold the irresponsible ones accountable.

Afterwards, we headed back to Galveston and stopped at Katie's Seafood House, where
I tried tilefish for the first time. That was a mighty good finish to an unexpected day of work.

IF YOU’VE NEVER SEEN THE HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL FROM THE WATER-YOU NEED TO.

Melisa and I recently took Port of Houston’s free Sam Houston Boat Tour, and I have to give them credit:
this is one of the coolest free experiences in the Houston area.

You get an up-close look at ships, terminals and massive working infrastructure that connects Houston
to Galveston Bay, the Texas coast and the rest of the world. It gives you an entirely different appreciation
for what moves through these waters everyday-and for just how important this waterway is to Texas.

The Port of Houston crew did an outstanding job explaining the history and operations of the ship channel.
The boat was beautiful, the people were welcoming, and the entire experience was first-class.

Of course, being Texas Shoreline, we noticed one thing immediately: the plastic water bottles.

That isn’t a criticism of this incredible program. It’s an opportunity.

Port of Houston already provides canned soft drinks and clearly marked can-recycling containers aboard
the vessel. Replacing the plastic water bottles with recyclable aluminum cans would be one simple
change that better reflects the importance of protecting the very waters this tour showcases.

We know a Texas company that may be able to help with that.😉

A great afternoon on the water, followed by some Texas Gulf Coast seafood with Melisa. That’s a pretty
hard day to beat.

Thank you, Port of Houston, for offering this experience to the public. We highly recommend it-and
Texas Shoreline would love to help make it even better.

Before there was a can , there was a mission, and there were people who believed in it.

Texas Shoreline Water Company would not be here without everyone who has supported Texas Shoreline over the years. Every person who showed up for a cleanup, carried a bag, shared a post, donated, volunteered,encouraged us, or simply believed that our Texas coast was worth protecting helped bring us to this moment.

You are a major part of this story.

This water company was built to help strengthen and support the mission we started together, reducing single use plastic and protecting the coastline that gives so much back to all of us.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has been part of Texas Shoreline. Look what we built together.

God opened the doors, and together, we kept walking through them.

Real change happens one decision at a time.

This week we visited the Houston Zoo, and I left encouraged.

Their exhibit shows what can happen when an organization commits to reducing single use plastics.

Every year, they’re eliminating:

- 300,000 single use plastic bottles

- 80,000 plastic bags

- 23,000 plastic straws

That’s meaningful impact.

I also noticed they’re offering beverages in aluminum cans instead of plastic bottles. It’s another
reminder that businesses have choices, and those choices can reduce the amount of single use
plastic entering our communities.

Protecting the Texas coast won’t come from one person or one organization. It happens when
nonprofits, businesses, and individuals all move in the same direction.

Every better choice matters.

Together, we can build a cleaner Texas coast.

This picture should bother you.

Not because it’s water.

Because it’s plastic.

Plastic sitting in the Texas sun.

Plastic that eventually becomes litter, fragments, and microplastics.

Plastic that researchers are now finding in human blood, lungs, arteries, and reproductive tissue.

We act like the problem starts when a bottle washes onto a beach.

The truth is, that’s the end of the story.

The story starts long before that.

Maybe it’s time we stop asking how to recycle more plastic and start asking why we’re still
wrapping our drinking water in it.

The coast is paying for it.

Wildlife is paying for it.

And increasingly, so are we.
