Manna Food Center

Manna Food Center Manna Food Center works to end hunger in Montgomery County, MD. Hunger is a hidden, but prevalent problem in Montgomery County.

Founded in 1983, Manna Food Center strives to end hunger in Montgomery County through education, advocacy, and food distribution. Almost 35% of all MCPS students qualify for a free or reduced price meal, an indication of the poverty we face daily in our community.

40% of households across the DMV region who are food insecure have children in the household.

SNAP works alongside school meal programs to help students stay healthy, learning, and ready to succeed. While we support local families through our school-based programs (like weekly bags of shelf-stable items and monthly market distributions), SNAP remains a crucial part of making sure every child has access to healthy food.

We’re asking for your support today to:
1. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to tell your members of Congress to protect and invest in SNAP and support children’s health and learning.
2. Visit https://frac.org/snap-week-of-action for other ways to support SNAP.

SNAP is our nation’s first defense against hunger.

Nearly 70,000 Montgomery County residents are helped by SNAP to buy food for their families.

And every SNAP dollar goes further than the checkout line. Each dollar in SNAP benefits generates $1.80 in economic activity, supporting farmers, grocery stores, and local businesses. At Manna, we see how this is all part of a food system that we’re working to make resilient and work for all families in our region.

This week is SNAP Week of Action, when we’re urging Congress to reverse harmful cuts and invest in SNAP to help keep families fed.

You can show your support for SNAP and building long-term food security this week. Visit https://frac.org/snap-week-of-action to learn how.

This week is SNAP Week of Action.

It’s a call to urge Congress to reverse harmful cuts and invest in SNAP to keep families fed.

Investing in SNAP means investing in stronger, healthier families and communities. It’s part of everything needed to solve hunger, which is why at Manna we both help families apply for SNAP and other nutrition benefit programs and advocate for funding for food assistance programs.

Ending hunger takes everyone’s help. You can get involved today:
1. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to tell your members of Congress to protect and invest in SNAP.
2. Visit https://frac.org/snap-week-of-action for other ways to support SNAP.

Seeing community members of all ages step up to fight hunger never gets old. 💚

A huge thank you to the incredible HOBY - Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership volunteers who spent time at Manna's warehouse helping pack food boxes and sort rescued produce. Every box packed and every piece of produce sorted helps get nutritious food to our neighbors across Montgomery County.

⚾️ Baseball gave back in a big way this summer.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, players from the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League's Montgomery County teams and Giant Food shoppers collected 1,857 pounds of food during this year's Feed the Hungry Food Drive to help stock our shelves.
The partnership didn't stop there—fans at the Bethesda Big Train game also stepped up during a special hot dog fundraiser with Catalyst Hot Dogs, with proceeds benefiting Manna Food Center.
"When a community comes together, no one has to face hunger alone," said Manna CEO Craig Rice.
Thank you to the players, volunteers, Giant Food, Catalyst Hot Dogs, the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League, and everyone who donated. Every can, every dollar, and every act of generosity helps ensure our neighbors have access to healthy food.
💙 Together, we're turning teamwork into meals.
