The biggest games deserve the biggest stage.

This season, every two weeks, we’ll bring you I-94 High School Basketball GameDay, live outside one of the area’s biggest matchups. Before tip-off, we’ll break down the game, discuss each team’s strengths, make our predictions, and talk about what the matchup means for the city and the season ahead.

Expect pregame analysis, season outlooks, interviews with coaches and players, fan predictions, and special guests as we build the atmosphere before the opening tip.

Just like College GameDay brings excitement to college football Saturdays, we’re bringing that same energy to high school basketball right here in Alachua County.

Every Sunday, we’ll go live from Satchel’s Pizza for the I-94 Weekly Wrap, a 15-minute show recapping everything that happened across Alachua County high school basketball.

We’ll break down the week’s biggest games, highlight the top performers, discuss the latest rankings, and talk about which teams are making a statement as the season unfolds. We’ll also sit down with players, coaches, and special guests to hear their perspective on the season, the game, and the lessons basketball teaches beyond the court.

This is more than a recap. It’s a place where the basketball community comes together to talk hoops, growth, leadership, and the culture that makes our game special.

Sarah Collins is the definition of a Swiss Army knife for the Gainesville Lady Hurricanes. Heading into her senior season, the Class of 2027 guard is coming off a year where she averaged 12.4 points, 5 rebounds, and made an impact in every phase of the game.

In her first season at Gainesville High School, Sarah embraced whatever role the team needed. She attacked the rim, found open teammates, knocked down shots from the perimeter, and consistently made winning plays that don’t always show up in the box score.

She’s the type of player every coach wants because she competes, follows the game plan, and does all the little things that help teams win.

With another year of experience under her belt, expect Sarah Collins to take another step forward. Don’t be surprised if her production jumps across the board during her senior campaign.

This season, we’ll be following 5 players and 3 teams, telling the stories that happen beyond the box score. The work, the sacrifices, the pressure, the growth, and everything in between.

🎬 Docu-Series Candidate: Javion Williams

We believe Javion Williams is the kind of player whose story deserves to be told.

As he enters his senior season, Javion has been a steady presence in the Eastside program. He stayed loyal through every stage, whether the team was struggling through a 4-win season or competing near the top of the area. He never changed his approach. He kept showing up, kept working, and kept believing in the program.

Now, with Eastside back in the conversation as one of the area’s top teams, we think this is the perfect time to document his journey.

Javion’s impact goes beyond what he does on the court. He’s the type of student-athlete who represents his school and community the right way, and we believe those stories deserve just as much attention as the highlights.

Following his final high school season would give fans a chance to see the work, leadership, and growth behind the scenes. We believe that’s a story worth telling.

🎬 Docu-Series Candidate: Kaden Merricks

We believe Kayden Merricks would be a great player to document this season.

Coming off a State Championship and a State Finals MVP performance, Kaden enters his senior year with high expectations and a fresh start at a new school. That alone makes for an interesting story, but it’s the work behind the scenes that really stands out.

Kaden is constantly in the gym. He follows a disciplined workout schedule, puts in consistent work, and is always focused on getting better. We think giving fans a look at that daily grind, along with the ups and downs o

🏆 THE MOST DECORATED BACKCOURT IN THE AREA.

Four guards. Two state champions. A State Finals MVP. A First Team All-Area selection. Proven winners. Proven production.

At I-94 Basketball, we believe PK Yonge enters this season with the best backcourt in the area. They can score, defend, create, play on or off the ball, and most importantly, they know how to win.

Coming off a state championship run with The Rock, Kyroe Jordan has already proven that his game translates directly to winning. The crafty left-handed guard consistently puts pressure on defenses with his ability to get downhill, absorb contact, and finish both at and above the rim.

Now entering his senior season, Jordan has developed into one of the area’s premier lead guards. He sees the floor extremely well, creates opportunities for teammates, and works especially well with athletic bigs who run the floor or provide a lob threat. His ability to collapse the defense makes everyone around him more dangerous.

Jordan’s impact is just as significant defensively. He can take on the opposing team’s top guard, apply pressure, and make it difficult for them to establish a rhythm. You have to account for him on both ends of the floor, which is what makes him such a complete threat.

Although his outside shot can be streaky, he has shown that when he is playing with confidence, he is more than capable of knocking down shots and forcing defenders to respect him beyond the paint.

Jordan brings toughness, playmaking, rim pressure, defense, and championship experience to the position. He is not only one of the best point guards in the area. He has a legitimate argument for being the best point guard in the area entering this season.

Sowell brings a calming presence to PK Yonge’s offense. Entering his senior season as a guard that understands the game and rarely lets the moment speed him up. While he has the ability to handle the ball, his natural fit is at the shooting guard position, where he can thrive playing off the ball while still creating when the opportunity presents itself.

A true three-level scorer, Sowell has the versatility to knock down perimeter shots, attack downhill, and finish at the rim. H

No. 2: Columbia Tigers

Shaheed White & Zadrian Knowlton

Coming in at No. 2 is Columbia’s backcourt of senior Shaheed White and junior Zadrian Knowlton.

White is one of the most dangerous scorers in the area. He produced several 20-point performances last season, including a 28-point outing against Trenton. He can knock down the three, attack the basket with either hand, and score in bunches once he finds a rhythm. When Columbia needs offense, he has already proven he can carry that responsibility.

Knowlton was just as impressive in a different role. As a sophomore, he was one of the area’s most consistent young guards. He showed he could handle the ball, initiate the offense, get downhill, and create clean opportunities for Columbia’s bigs and perimeter shooters. He can also fill it up himself. Against Santa Fe, he knocked down six three-pointers, showing the type of shooting range that forces defenses to respect him well beyond the paint.

Both guards also fit the aggressive style Columbia wants to play defensively. They compete on both ends, apply pressure, and have already experienced meaningful postseason basketball together.

The Tigers finished one win short of the state final 4 after a difficult loss to Fleming Island in the regional final. Fleming Island went on to reach the state championship game, so Columbia was not far from breaking through themselves.

That experience matters heading into this season. White returns as a proven senior scorer, while Knowlton now steps into an upperclassman role with a full varsity season behind him. They already understand the system, know how to play alongside one another, and have shown they can produce against strong competition.

In my opinion, there is only one backcourt in the area I would place ahead of them entering the season. Columbia has scoring, shooting, playmaking, defense, and postseason experience. With both guards returning, they are positioned to put up strong numbers, make another deep playoff run, and give themselves a real chance to reach the state championship game.

Coming in at No. 3 are the Trenton Tigers, led by seniors Tyler Bullis and Marc Micale.

This is one of the most experienced backcourts in the area. They’re coming off a Final Four run, both earned All-Area recognition, and they’ve played in enough big games that nothing really speeds them up anymore.

Tyler is the guy who keeps everything organized. He has a polished handle, creates separation off the dribble, shoots it well from deep, and consistently makes the right read. What stands out most after watching him is that the bigger the moment, the more comfortable he becomes. He doesn’t back away from competition. He embraces it. That mentality, along with his production, earned him First Team All-Area honors from both the Gainesville Sun and Mainstreet Daily News.

Marc complements him perfectly because he affects the game in completely different ways. He’s athletic enough to finish above the rim, strong enough to battle on the glass, and versatile enough to grab a rebound and lead the break himself. There were several games this past season where he put together performances of 17 points, 14 points, and double-digit rebounds. He earned Honorable Mention All-Area, and his impact often extends beyond what shows up in the stat sheet.

What separates this duo is how naturally their games fit together. Tyler controls the pace, creates offense, and spaces the floor. Marc brings athleticism, rim pressure, rebounding, and defensive versatility. They don’t overlap. They complement each other.
I think No. 3 is the right spot heading into the season. They’re proven winners, experienced seniors, and they’ve already shown they can make a deep postseason run. The two backcourts ahead of them simply have a slight edge in overall talent at their respective positions, but that gap isn’t large. If Trenton makes another deep playoff run and both seniors elevate their games, there’s a real argument that this group could finish the season as the best backcourt in the area.

For now, though, the Trenton Tigers have earned the No. 3 spot.
