Scouts BSA Troop 16/5016 has been in existence for almost 100years at Gainesville First UMC.

Troop 16 hit the Appalachian Trail this weekend!

Our Scouts started at Springer Mountain—the southern terminus of the AT and hiked to Three Forks, camping along the trail for the night.

Along the way, they filtered their own water and cooked individual backpacking meals for dinner: putting those outdoor skills to work!

And of course, the Bruner Bus made the trip. At this point, we’re pretty sure there isn’t a Forest Service road in North Georgia that bus hasn’t crossed- or at least attempted with questionable enthusiasm.

Great teamwork, outdoor skills, and plenty of memories made. Another Troop 16 adventure in the books!

Scouting is a family affair in Pack & Troop 16!

With so many families having an older Scout in Troop 16 and a younger sibling in Cub Scouts Pack 16 - Gainesville, GA, our Troop Scouts were at Webelos Woods helping teach skills, encourage the Webelos and protect Troop 16’s future recruiting class. 😂

Apparently when your older sibling is already in Troop 16, crossover comes with a pre-selected destination.

From casting to cooking!

Troop 16 wrapped up the Fishing Merit Badge at today’s Chattahoochee District - NEGA Council BSA Fishing Rodeo - and the EDGE Method was in full force as Scouts taught Scouts how to properly clean their catch.

Catch it ➡️ Clean it ➡️ Cook it ➡️ Eat it!

Troop 16 is getting ready for the Chattahoochee District - NEGA Council BSA Fishing Rodeo! Tonight our Scouts worked on their Fishing Merit Badge, practicing the skills they’ll soon put to the test on the water. 🐟

And in a plot twist… a Cub Scouts Pack 16 - Gainesville, GA little sister showed everyone how it’s done by making the biggest catch of the night!

Troop 16 was out in the community at the Elachee Nature Science Center Wildlife Festival!

Assistant Scoutmaster Lance has been working on his Wood Badge ticket and put that leadership into action by hosting a Scouting recruiting table at the festival.

He had some great Scout help, too! First Class Scout Lake helped teach visitors about Leave No Trace through CAMP OH NO! Festival guests were challenged to spot everything wrong with our campsite while learning how small choices can make a big difference when enjoying the outdoors.

A great example of what Scouting is all about — youth leadership, adult mentorship, outdoor ethics, and sharing Scouting with our community. ⚜️

Today, a group of our Youth Leaders and Assistant Scoutmasters came together for a leadership workshop focused on building skills, teamwork, and camaraderie. They tested new recipes and cooking setups, prepared skits, brushed up on knots, and spent time planning for the months ahead.

With these dedicated individuals leading the way, we’re looking forward to seeing our Scouts grow in confidence, leadership, and skills throughout the Troop this fall!

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Scouts BSA Troop 16! 🇺🇸

Today, our nation celebrates 250 years of American independence—a remarkable milestone honoring the courage, sacrifice, and vision of those who founded our country.

As Scouts, we are called to live the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, including our Duty to Country. Through service, leadership, outdoor adventure, and community involvement, our Scouts learn that citizenship is more than a badge—it's a lifelong commitment to making a positive difference.

This Fourth of July, as we celebrate with family and friends, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibility we each have to serve our communities and strengthen our nation for future generations.

From all of us at Troop 16, we wish you a safe, meaningful, and Happy Independence Day.

Troop 16 is on the road to summer camp!

Today, 22 Scouts and their dedicated leaders are heading to Camp Bud Schiele for a week filled with adventure, learning, leadership, and unforgettable memories. From merit badges and waterfront activities to campfires and new friendships, this is what Scouting is all about.

For generations, Troop 16 has been blessed with leaders who understand that Scouting is about far more than merit badges and camping trips — it’s about shaping young men into leaders of character and service.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Robert Bruner on receiving a Gainesville High School honorary diploma. Dr. Bruner has dedicated decades not only to serving our community through the Good News Clinics, but also to mentoring hundreds of Scouts through Troop 16. His impact on Gainesville and the lives of young people across our community is truly immeasurable.

More than 250 young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout under his leadership — a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

Congratulations also to Mr. Bryson Worley on this well-deserved recognition for his years of service to Gainesville High School students and athletics.

We are proud to see leaders who have invested so much in our community recognized in such a meaningful way.

You can literally cook anything in a Dutch oven over coals… and Troop 16 proved it this weekend. 🔥

At NEGA Scout Show, our Scouts took things to the next level by frying up fresh donuts right on site. Not just talking about outdoor cooking—but actually doing it, start to finish, over the fire. The result? Hot, fresh donuts that had people stopping in their tracks.

Even some very seasoned leaders were standing there in awe watching it happen.

This is what Scouting looks like—real skills, hands-on learning, and a little creativity that turns a simple setup into something unforgettable. 🍩🔥
