🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Scouts BSA Troop 16! 🇺🇸

Today, our nation celebrates 250 years of American independence—a remarkable milestone honoring the courage, sacrifice, and vision of those who founded our country.

As Scouts, we are called to live the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, including our Duty to Country. Through service, leadership, outdoor adventure, and community involvement, our Scouts learn that citizenship is more than a badge—it's a lifelong commitment to making a positive difference.

This Fourth of July, as we celebrate with family and friends, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibility we each have to serve our communities and strengthen our nation for future generations.

From all of us at Troop 16, we wish you a safe, meaningful, and Happy Independence Day.

Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

For generations, Troop 16 has been blessed with leaders who understand that Scouting is about far more than merit badges and camping trips — it’s about shaping young men into leaders of character and service.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Robert Bruner on receiving a Gainesville High School honorary diploma. Dr. Bruner has dedicated decades not only to serving our community through the Good News Clinics, but also to mentoring hundreds of Scouts through Troop 16. His impact on Gainesville and the lives of young people across our community is truly immeasurable.

More than 250 young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout under his leadership — a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

Congratulations also to Mr. Bryson Worley on this well-deserved recognition for his years of service to Gainesville High School students and athletics.

We are proud to see leaders who have invested so much in our community recognized in such a meaningful way.

You can literally cook anything in a Dutch oven over coals… and Troop 16 proved it this weekend. 🔥

At NEGA Scout Show, our Scouts took things to the next level by frying up fresh donuts right on site. Not just talking about outdoor cooking—but actually doing it, start to finish, over the fire. The result? Hot, fresh donuts that had people stopping in their tracks.

Even some very seasoned leaders were standing there in awe watching it happen.

This is what Scouting looks like—real skills, hands-on learning, and a little creativity that turns a simple setup into something unforgettable. 🍩🔥

🗺️ Scout Show Parking & Event Map is Here!

We’ve put together a detailed map so you know exactly where to go when you arrive at Scout Show this Saturday in Downtown Flowery Branch.

Parking, activity zones, Pinewood Derby, food, and all the action—it’s all laid out to make your day easy and enjoyable.

A big thank you to BSA Troop 228 for sharing their festival logistics plan and advice. We’re using the same proven parking approach they’ve successfully used, and it’s going to help everything run smoothly for both Scouts and the community.

We can’t wait to see everyone out there for a full day of adventure, community, and Scouting in action!

🧼 Troop 16 Back at Work! 🎒

After a great weekend on the trail, Monday’s meeting focused on cleaning, drying, and packing away gear from the AT Hike.

Scouts worked together to inspect equipment, restock supplies, and make sure everything is ready for the next outing. A Scout is Thrifty and Helpful, and taking care of our gear is part of the job.

Strong finish to a great adventure—on and off the trail. 🏕️💪

Troop 16 took on the Appalachian Trail this weekend—and it delivered.

This was the first backpacking trip for our newest crossovers, and they didn’t get an “easy mode” introduction… because in true Troop 16 fashion, it rained. 😄 And they kept right on hiking anyway.

Yesterday’s trek from Woody Gap to Jarrard Gap brought steady miles and a real taste of the trail. We camped last night at Lake Winfield Scott, where the Scouts settled in after a full day on their feet.

Today, the older scouts pushed on from Jarrard Gap to Neel Gap, finishing strong—rain or not.

Between the perfect spring weather (minus that classic Troop 16 rain 😅), fun trails, and a group of Scouts who didn’t quit, this was a weekend full of growth, grit, and a pretty great start to their journey in Troop 16.
