๐Ÿšง๐Ÿฆจ Tiny Survivors from a Construction Site ๐Ÿฆจ๐Ÿšง

We recently received three baby skunks from a local construction site after workers discovered that a mother skunk had made her den underneath a large container bin.

When the bin was moved, the crew was horrified to find Mom and her six babies underneath. Sadly, the accident claimed the lives of Mom and three of the babies. Thankfully, three little ones survived and made their way into care, where they are now safe, warm, and doing well.

We want to give a huge thank you to the construction crew for taking the time to stop, assess the situation, and make sure these babies got the help they needed. It would have been easy to walk away, especially with an animal that many people fear or misunderstand, but instead they chose compassion.

And honestly? If you've never seen a baby skunk up close, you're missing out. They are ridiculously cute, full of personality, and already stealing hearts here in rehab.

As wildlife becomes increasingly surrounded by development, situations like this remind us how important it is to stay aware of the animals sharing our spaces. A few extra moments of caution can save lives.

Welcome to A.E.R.O., little ones. We're rooting for you. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿชฟ๐Ÿ’š Another Goose Update! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿชฟ

Our baby geese have officially gone from fluffy little yellow dumplings to the awkward teenage phaseโ€ฆ and now theyโ€™re finally starting to grow out of it! ๐Ÿ˜†

Weโ€™re seeing more and more of their adult feathers and grown-up coloring come in every day. While they still canโ€™t fly yet, theyโ€™re well on their way to becoming beautiful adult geese.

Itโ€™s amazing how quickly they change. One minute theyโ€™re tiny fuzzballs fitting in the palm of your hand, and the next theyโ€™re waddling around looking like gangly teenagers trying to figure out life. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Check out their latest photos and see how much theyโ€™ve grown! We canโ€™t wait to watch them continue their journey toward adulthood and eventual release. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ’š What a crazy time of year! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿฆ

We are getting SO many calls about baby birds right now โ€” one of our favorite groups of animals to work with!

The good news is that many baby birds **don't actually need rescuing**. In fact, the best thing we can often do is help them stay with their parents whenever possible.

That's why we wanted to share some information about:
๐Ÿฃ How to reunite and renest baby birds
๐Ÿฃ When a baby truly needs help
๐Ÿฃ When it's best to observe from a distance and let mom and dad do their job

Take a look at the **Baby Bird** section of our website and keep it as a reference if you ever have questions. It even includes an **interactive flowchart** that will walk you through emergency versus non-emergency situations and help you determine the best next step.

Every year, countless baby birds are accidentally removed from the wild (yes, kidnapped) when their parents were still caring for them. A few minutes of research can make all the difference. ๐Ÿ’š

Check out the guide and help us keep wildlife wild! ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ

The right move isnโ€™t always obvious โ€” and well-meaning intervention often does more harm than good. This guide will help you identify what type of baby bird youโ€™ve found, whether it truly needs help, and what steps to take. When in doubt, always contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator before...

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ A Little Supply Help for Tessa & Christian ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

This year has absolutely exploded with wildlife intakes, and Tessa and Christian have taken in more animals than ever before!! Like many of our rehabbers, they primarily work with small mammals, reptiles, and rabies vector species with some of their favorites being squirrels, groundhogs, raccoons, and turtles. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿข

As intake numbers continue to climb, supplies disappear FAST.

Some items we are always in need of include:
๐Ÿงค Gloves
๐Ÿฉบ Blue pads
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Incubators

Additional incubators would make a huge difference and would actually allow us to increase how many babies and critical patients we can safely intake and stabilize during baby season. The link to their Amazon wish list is in the comments.

Thank you so much to everyone who continues to support wildlife rehabbers working around the clock for these animals. Every donation truly helps. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ AERO is officially back up and running! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you all so much for your patience while we took a short pause to catch up, clean, reorganize, disinfect, and honestlyโ€ฆ breathe a little. ๐Ÿ˜…

Please continue to be patient with us as we get moving again and work through messages, calls, and new intake requests. Baby season is still in full swing and our rehabbers are working around the clock to keep up with the incredible number of animals currently in care.

Weโ€™re so grateful for everyoneโ€™s understanding and support during these busy times. ๐Ÿ’š

โค๏ธ๐Ÿฆ A Really Lucky Cardinal ๐Ÿฆโค๏ธ

This Northern Cardinal came into care after being caught by a large dog. Unfortunately, cases like this usually donโ€™t do very well in rehab due to the amount of trauma and bacteria involved in animal attacks.

But this little bird had other plans. ๐Ÿ’š

After weeks of supportive care including antibiotics, x-rays, and lots of quiet recovery time, this cardinal is now flying beautifully around our release enclosure and is officially ready to head back out into the wild!

A rare recovery for a very lucky bird โ€” and we couldnโ€™t be happier with the outcome. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐Ÿข๐Ÿ’š The last of our overwintered turtles are finally out the door! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿข

It took us a little longer than usual to get everyone organized with drivers and release plans this year simply because of the overwhelming volume of animals in careโ€ฆ but we finally got our last baby snapper back out into the wild. ๐ŸŒฟ

And honestly? We got a pretty good laugh out of this little chunk. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Check out this baby snapping turtle who has been an *excellent* eater while in care. He definitely packed on some healthy weight before release โ€” maybe a little *too* healthy. ๐Ÿ˜…

While being underweight is dangerous, being too chunky isnโ€™t ideal either when they arenโ€™t getting the same amount of routine exercise they would in the wild. Good thing this little guy headed out right on time before needing a diet plan. ๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™re so happy to see all of our overwintered reptiles finally heading home where they belong.

๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿชถ One Tough Yellow-Billed Cuckoo ๐Ÿชถ๐Ÿ’›

This yellow-billed cuckoo came into care after being hit by a car. Sadly, during transport she laid an egg in the box โ€” something birds will sometimes do during extreme stress or trauma. ๐Ÿ’”

After arriving in rehab, she spent weeks recovering with supportive care, quiet housing, and time to rebuild her strength.

And now for the happy endingโ€ฆ โœจ

After weeks in care, this beautiful bird was finally strong enough to head back out into the wild where she belongs. ๐ŸŒฟ

Watching a bird go from such a stressful and heartbreaking situation to successful release is always incredibly rewarding.

๐ŸฆŽ๐Ÿ’š Patient Update: Broad-Headed Skink ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸฆŽ

This broad-headed skink came into care after being attacked by a cat. Historically speaking, we unfortunately do not have great outcomes with cat attacks across many species due to the bacteria and trauma involved.

But this little skink absolutely went above and beyond our expectations. ๐Ÿ’š

After spending a few weeks in care recovering, healing, and regaining strength, he was finally able to head back out for release on Monday!

Take a look at the photos and his incredible progress. We truly couldnโ€™t be happier with this outcome. Sometimes these tiny reptiles surprise us in the best ways possible. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿ’š A Quick Intake Update + Baby Fox Update ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸฆŠ

We are still closed for intakes at the moment โ€” at least to the best of our ability โ€” and are currently handling things on a strict case-by-case basis.

Our plan is to reopen early next week once everything is fully cleaned, disinfected, reorganized, and our rehabbers have had a couple of days to breathe, shower, and grocery shop. ๐Ÿ˜…

In the meantime, weโ€™ll be sharing some patient updates from the past few weeks. First upโ€ฆ these adorable baby foxes. ๐Ÿฅน

These babies came into care one at a time, mostly through animal services, and arrived needing intensive around-the-clock care. The good news is they are finally eating on their own and have officially moved into outdoor caging to begin the transition process. ๐ŸŒฟ

Foxes stay in rehab for quite a while, so theyโ€™ll be with us for some time yet. And while we work very hard not to acclimate them to humans, we have absolutely no problem quietly sneaking cameras around from a distance while theyโ€™re sleepingโ€ฆ or during cage cleaning time anyways. ๐Ÿ˜

Theyโ€™re wild little foxes first and foremost โ€” but wow are they cute. ๐Ÿ’š
