Youth Clothing Needs and Youth Service Opportunity!

The Hope Closet partners with local school and Wake County social workers to meet youth clothing needs for families with children experiencing hardship or crisis. We currently have needs for the following clothing sizes that we do not have in our inventory:

Girls

• 24 month / 2T

• 3T

• 7/8 (Youth Medium)

• 10/12 (Youth Large)

• 14–16 and 18 (Youth XL and XXL)

Boys

• 5/5T

Teens — all sizes, but especially:

• Women’s Small (styles geared toward teens)

• Men’s Large (teen/athletic styles)

• Men's XL and XXL (athletic styles)

YOUTH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:

Additionally, if you have a middle schooler or high schooler in need of volunteer hours (i.e., National Honor Society), we are looking to implement a program for youth to collect and sort youth clothing within their schools, neighborhoods, and among their peers in exchange for required volunteer hours.

We feel like giving young people the opportunity to intentionally collect, sort, and put together outfits for their economically disadvantaged peers is a meaningful way to teach empathy and compassion...to pause and think about the person on the receiving end. Would they like this? Would they feel good wearing it? Would I give this to a friend? There is something powerful about asking a teenager to think about another teenager...not as a “person in need,” but as a person who wants to walk into school with the same dignity, comfort and confidence as they do.

Too often, adults can become jaded by the ongoing needs around us and settle into this mentality of simply giving people whatever we have. But we want to help our young people learn that serving others isn’t about giving something away just because it's convenient - it’s about giving with intention. Because if we can model this to our youth now (how to "level up" and serve others with greater thoughtfulness and compassion), then it can shape the way they SEE and SERVE others for years to come.

So, if you have a student who might be interested in helping us build this pilot program, please reach out. We would love to involve them!

And if you have any of the clothing sizes listed above to donate, clothes can be dropped off at Original Strength Institute in downtown Fuquay or please message us for additional locations.

Yesterday, we learned of the passing of our dear friend and supporter, Tim Epling. Our hearts are broken.

Tim was instrumental in helping us start The Hope Closet. He saw our vision, believed in what we were trying to build, and helped pave the way in so many ways—helping us find our first storage space, providing initial funding, making important connections in our community, offering guidance, encouragement, prayer, and so much more.

But Tim wasn’t simply a supporter of The Hope Closet. He was our dear friend. It’s hard to put into words what he meant to us and how much his kindness, generosity, and encouragement impacted our lives and this organization.

Tim was a true community servant and a man of deep faith. He embodied the love of Jesus through the way he cared for others, served his community, and willingly stepped in to help when there was a need.

While we are heartbroken he is no longer with us, we are also incredibly grateful.

Grateful that God placed Tim in our lives. Grateful that he believed in a little dream called The Hope Closet. Grateful for every door he helped open. Grateful for every person he helped us reach. And grateful that we had the privilege of calling him our friend.

Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for believing in The Hope Closet. And thank you for loving and serving others so faithfully.

We will carry your legacy with us. ❤️

Just WOW. Please take a moment to read and watch this video! We don't even know how to put into words what today meant to us. The ENERGY. The adrenaline. The FELLOWSHIP. The emotion. ALL OF IT. ❤️

The work we do at The Hope Closet can be incredibly heavy. And some days, the emotional roller coaster of it all can be exhausting...because, honestly, we cannot help but carry a lot of those stories with us long after the deliveries are done.

But then there are days like TODAY. We got to see over 100 women get together and remind us we are not alone and have a system of support. The energy was contagious, the generosity of the contributors and sponsors was overwhelming, and the team at Original Strength Institute was nothing short of PHENOMENAL. All of this comes together to make weight of the work we do feel a whole lot lighter.

We were overwhelmed to be able to hold a check for $8,500 to support our mission. And, as if that wasn't beautiful enough, suddenly about 15 mins later, we found out it jumped to incredible $10,000 raised!!! This money will help us to transition to a new and larger facility where we can plant roots, expand our capacity to accept donations, grow in our mission and serve our community with love and purpose.

To everyone at OSI and every single woman who showed up, gave, cheered, squatted, volunteered, or simply poured her heart into making today happen, THANK YOU. You didn't just raise money for The Hope Closet. You lifted up the very people doing the lifting, and we needed that more than you know. Our hearts are so incredibly full. ❤️ 🙏

We look forward to sharing more pictures soon, but until then we want to express how grateful we are to the Fuquay Varina Local Heroes for their generous support of The Hope Closet—and for working so hard to raise an amazing $8,000 to help us continue serving local families facing hardship or crisis!

This week we attended a wonderful breakfast fundraiser—a morning filled with food, fellowship, and an incredible sense of community. It meant so much to see town officials, local business owners, county and state representatives, friends, and families come together to honor our local first responders and recognize the work The Hope Closet is doing in our community.

This generous gift will help provide beds, furniture, clothing, household essentials, hygiene supplies, and so much more to families facing difficult circumstances. Every dollar helps us transform empty apartments into homes and foster stability for our neighbors when they need it most.

To the Fuquay-Varina Local Heroes—and to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, volunteered, or simply showed up to support us—THANK YOU! Your kindness reminds us just how special this community is.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated service members and first responders honored at this event. You inspire us, and we are profoundly thankful for all you do to protect, serve, and strengthen our community.

Friends - The Hope Closet was featured in Main & Broad this month, and while seeing our nonprofit in a magazine is pretty surreal, there is one simple truth between the lines of this article:

This story is not about us. It is about a community of real people who choose to let someone else's needs matter to them.

Over the past two years we’ve seen things in our community forever imprinted in our minds and on our hearts. Children sleeping on bare floors or in cars. Mothers fleeing domestic violence and walking into empty homes with only the clothes on their backs. Residences without clean drinking water. Families who have experienced catastrophic loss due to fire and do not have the means to rebuild alone.

And then we would share those needs to our community. And you would respond.

There are real people on the other side of these posts who stop scrolling and say, “I can help – where do I drop off?” You have pulled towels from linen closets and furniture from spare rooms. You've bought mattresses and dishes and cleaning supplies. You've loaded trucks, carried couches up flights of stairs to give a family a place to sit. You have sent packages to our door and driven across town to deliver something to a person you've never met.

And sometimes, still unbelievable to witness, we get to watch an empty house become a home in just a matter of days.

Not because The Hope Closet has some enormous warehouse. We have a modest 600 sq ft in a building scheduled to be demolished. Not because we have a huge budget or staff with paid employees. We are simply community servants trying to connect what one neighbor can give with what another desperately needs.

We see it all come together because a whole lot of ordinary people continue to decide that someone else's hard day matters to them.

That is how this started. And somehow, in less than two years, those individual moments of compassion have carried us from one garage and one Section 8 complex to the doorsteps of nearly 700 households across ten Section 8 complexes and six zip codes.

Seven hundred homes. Let that sink in.

There are real people behind those numbers. Single mothers, fathers, grandparents, infants, siblings raising siblings. There are children who slept in beds that came from your homes. People who dried off with towels you washed, folded, and bundled nicely with ribbon. Families gathering to share meals at tables that once sat in your own kitchens.

Things that were no longer needed in one home became exactly what was needed in another.

So when you read this article, I hope you don't just read about us. I hope you see yourself in it. Because you helped build this, and you continue to carry it forward.
