This applies to ALL rescue...wildlife, domestic, exotics, farm...

Rescues are not paid or funded. We have full time jobs, children, our own pets, we get sick, we deal with unbelievably rude people via Facebook & from the individuals that contact us.

Rescue is financially, emotionally, & physically draining.

Just because we rescue for free doesn't mean we are not professionals. Many of us take continuing education classes at our expense. We work with vet staff, biologists, & some of us are vet staff & biologists with years of experience working with animals.

And then people wonder why some licensed rehabilitators do not answer messages, or why they stop rehabilitating all together.

To my fellow rescuers, YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
Wishing you all lots of donations, support from those around you, happy release days for rehabilitators, & tons of adoptions to those that rescue farm, exotics, & domestic pets.

We are tired....please be kind in general! 💜

Yesterday with everything going on,

A 4 gram American Robin hatchling. A lawn care maintenance guy knocked a nest down & one egg was cracked & the other was in the middle of hatching.

He meant well but unfortunately taking injured or orphaned wildlife to a Tracker Supply or pet store is not as helpful as they think.

The poor cashier at Tracker Supply panicked & thankfully called Animal Control. I was then contacted. Animal Control kept the newly hatched baby warm & brought it over.

The American Robin is adorable. I am pretty sure the egg is not longer viable but I have it in the incubator for a few days just in case.

If you have tree trimmers or lawn care individuals come to your home & you care about wildlife, please have a conversation with them to be mindful of wildlife during baby season. Have them walk the yard & inspect trees for nests before removal. Let them know if there are wildlife offspring nests to leave those areas be & if they disrupt the nests or harm them by accident, to let you know.

Unfortunately, many lawn maintenance, tree trimming, & power washing companies are told to ignore the wildlife & do their job as quickly as possible.

Anyways, here's a hatchling American Robin

UPDATE #2:
Woke up this morning & she was gone unfortunately. Thank you for all of the support. I am very thankful she did not have to lay in the street just waiting to be hit by a car again.

UPDATE:
2:37am - she is resting. Swelling has stopped, no more active bleeding from her nose or mouth, still has labored & congested breathing. She was give pain meds, antibiotics inflammatory meds, fluids (small amount because of the possibility of blood in the lungs & cranial swelling)

She was not lactating, so she was not feeding offspring thankfully

P.S.- there are a handful of comments asking me to to contact a rehabilitator (which is definitely something people should do if you see something like this happen, but I am state & federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator for the last 20 years. I would never advise anyone to take home a wild animal that was injured & attempt to care for it. Training & medications are needed to do this. I will consult with my vet if needed.

I am going to try to get some sleep myself, but wanted to post an update. 💜🐿

It is extremely rare for me to actually find injured wildlife & bring it home but here we are....with an adult female squirrel.

Last day of school for my child & we are in our development almost home. We see a squirrel in the road & a red car was going slowly towards it & then sped up hitting the squirrel head on while the squirrel jumped to get out of the way.

My child & I watch in disbelief & horror that this individual hit the squirrel & left it still alive on the road flailing around while it was almost 100 degrees outside.

I pulled over immediately & got the squirrel in the car.

She has severe head trauma. I have to keep going in to remove blood from her nose & mouth.

It is days like this that truly question humanity. My child kept asking over & over, "Why did they hit it on purpose?" I had to explain that some individuals unfortunately just do not care or have respect for life other than their own.

I often get comments, "its just a tree rat"
"There are too many squirrels" and my favorite, "Why do you care if a squirrel is hurt?"

Tree rat or not, this female squirrel did not deserve this treatment. I will never condone animal suffering...NEVER!

I will do all I can to help this female squirrel either by helping her work through this or by helping her find peace over the rainbow.

Please send some positivity her way. She is going to need it. 💜🐿

Batman knows what's up!

Even with all his cool gadgets, money, & smarts he even knows the best place for injured & orphaned wildlife is with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator!

He knows Google unfortunately does not have the best information when it comes to wildlife care.

If you find injured & orphaned wildlife, the most important thing you can do says Batman, is keep them warm. No food, water, or medications. (Batman will come for you)

Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or facility as quickly as possible. Use the state's wildlife commission website (DNR) or AnimalHelpNow.org to help locate a wildlife professional.

Be like Batman & get wildlife professional help & send a bat signal if you need Batman's help!

Summer is here & outdoor swimming is great but please consider making a ramp or a floatation device to help wildlife that make accidentally get stuck in your pools.

It's hot outside & a large container of water maybe very appealing to thirsty wildlife. Only problem, wildlife may not be able to get out of the pools.

Animal Help Now provided this little post a while back & I find it very helpful.

As usual, if you find injured or orphaned wildlife, keep them warm, please do not give food or water, & contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or facility near you.

*use the state's wildlife commission website or AnimalHelpNow.org to locate a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or facility.
