It’s almost Friday! Pippin is one of our senior pups who loves his fur blankets. Whenever he finds a “a furry” he curls up and takes a nice senior boy nap. One of the most important things we make sure we do is regular heartworm meds! Everyone gets their meds (with a bit of yummy cheese so no one complains) and it keeps them safe from deadly heartworms! 🪱

Some days are meant for paws, and some are meant for hooves! 🐴 Today Boots got her feet done by her farrier and had PEMF to manage her pain due to her rare medical condition.

Boots has super rare OCD lesions and these lesions are in her shoulders. Only 3% of them occur in this area and usually horses do not recover and are not able to be walking with these lesions - but Boots is a little miracle!

In order to keep her comfortable she needs pain management and gets daily supplements and we started some treatments with PEMF to help with pain and osteoarthritis as she doesn’t have any cartilage left in her right shoulder after her surgery to remove the lesions and she has stiffness and uses majority of her left for mobility.

Our job is to keep her comfortable and make sure that her needs are met while she is able to still move around and enjoy her life. She may not live a long life but she will live a good one with us at AASR.

She spends her day roaming in the pasture with her friend Shea and getting to just be a horse after so much medical and going through a lot of rehab and more to get her here post-surgery. She’s now 4 years old and truly a happy little horse. She loves cookies (a little too much we have to watch her weight), and her FAVORITE thing is neck scratches!

🐾 A few important rules:

🐕 All dogs MUST be on a leash.
🐈 All cats MUST be secured in a carrier. No free-roaming felines, please!
🐶 Aggressive or reactive dogs MUST be kept firmly under control at all times. We know not everyone is a social butterfly, but safety comes first for pets, owners, and staff!
🐾 Maximum of 10 animals per person at one time.

Good morning from Merry!

We are going to be launching a fundraiser for Merry! Merry is a special pup who lets just say is a little mouthy and now that little mouth that got him in some trouble, well it needs a bit of cleaning up!

Merry needs a dental, he’s next on the list! His initial dental will be about $500-$600 for stage 1 and then based on what they say, he could need a stage 2 which is usually about $500-600 with extractions and such too.

These dentals are one of our largest costs in sanctuary for the small dogs outside of specialist like cardiology and eye care. Small dogs have some of these “special” issues; and it’s a big reason they end up behavioral and medical in shelters and are the #2 euthanized.

We would love to find some Tooth Fairy Sponsors to get Merry this dental!

💔 TEDDY DOESN’T WANT MUCH. HE JUST WANTS HIS PERSON CLOSE BY.

Teddy is a 3-year-old, 20 lb Pug/Chihuahua mix in Holly Springs, NC, with a tender heart, a shy little soul, and a very strong opinion that humans should simply stay home with him forever. 😂❤️

Once Teddy feels safe, he becomes the sweetest little shadow — following you from room to room, snuggling beside you, joining you in the yard, and happily soaking up all the attention you’ll give him.

🐾 3 years old | 20 lbs

Teddy is shy at first and may bark or growl when meeting someone new or when a person re-enters a room. He isn’t trying to be difficult — he’s anxious and needs slow introductions, patience, and reassurance.

His biggest challenge is separation anxiety.

Teddy struggles when left alone, even if other dogs are around. His ideal adopter is someone who works from home, is retired, has a flexible schedule, or simply loves bringing their dog along for everyday life.

Basically, Teddy is applying for the position of Full-Time Best Friend. 😂

He’s still working on potty training and may have occasional accidents, but he’s not destructive and is making progress with consistency.

Teddy isn’t the dog who will instantly love everyone.

He’s the dog who needs time to decide you’re safe.

And once he does?

You get the snuggles.
You get the loyalty.
You get the little shadow who just wants to be wherever you are. ❤️
