Out of the several important training topics covered today, two stand out, article searches and recalls. K9 Bailey demonstrates her ability to not just find people, but as an EOD K9, locate explosive materials, which were hidden inside the white container. K9s are first and foremost a locating and de-escalation tools. Being the only less lethal use of force option that can be recalled after deployment, our K9 have the ability to be called back to the handler if a suspect surrenders, even during full engagement! This video highlights both recalls and article searches!

With hearts full of love, today we said goodbye to K9 Santi. Although forever with us, we will miss him. He was loved by his community, fellow deputies, unit members and most of all, his handler. We want to thank the community, and outside agencies for all the support, love and outreach you all have given us this last couple days. We also want to thank the Merced Police Department, Clovis Police Department, Fresno Police Department and Mariposa Sheriff’s Office for joining us today. Santi, rest easy now and run free until we see you again.

If there was one phrase to describe Santi it definitely was “Locked In!” Santi loved bite work and as sooner he was out of the car he was ready for work. Enjoy this video of Santi doing what he loved to do. RIP K9 Santi 💙🖤🐾
