Arunay Foundation Saving lives by raising awareness about beach hazards and improving beach safety We are now repurposing this page for the Arunay Foundation.

This page was used to coordinate the search activity to recover, Anuray Pruthi who was swept into the ocean at the Cowell Ranch State Beach on the afternoon of MLK Day (January 18, 2021). The family has decided to cease all active search activities from March 1, 2021. In that spirit, we have also decided to withdraw the $50K reward, and desire people to stop actively searching for him.

It is hard to find words when a nightmare we know all too well touches so many families in such a short time. Our hearts are completely with them.
These devastating weeks only deepen our resolve. We won’t stop fighting to educate and equip our coastlines so that everyone makes it home safe. Please stay alert out there.

Closing out National Water Safety Month with grateful hearts.

The East Bay Regional Park District and Arunay Foundation shared beach and water safety tips with nearly 500 students at Gomes Elementary—our second Bay Area public school partner!

Teaching kids about ocean hazards like sneaker waves helps keep every beach day safe and memorable. Thank you, Gomes Elementary, for the warm welcome!

To many, this may be a post, but for us, it is a milestone of the heart: Arunay’s 18th birthday.

To know Arunay was to feel the quiet strength he carried. There was a rare gentleness about him — a warmth, and light that seemed timeless. Whether he was chasing a goal on the soccer field, exploring a new corner of the globe, or standing by his friends, he lived with the ability to connect with everyone he met.

This would have been the year of college plans, new adventures, and stepping into adulthood, and we can only imagine the light you would have carried into the world. We will always miss seeing the man you would have become, but the light you brought into our lives still shines. You continue to guide us, inspire us, and bring people together.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Happy Birthday Arunay!

Locals Making Waves for Safety

Big love and a loud shoutout to the Halliday family of Christie’s Real Estate - Sereno for sponsoring a life ring station at Poplar Beach in Half Moon Bay!

Owen and Kim—thank you both for showing what community in action really looks like. You are helping bring our “100 Rings & More” vision to life, one ring at a time. Every station we install is more than a safety tool—it’s a real chance to save someone’s life.

If this inspires you, here’s how you can get involved:
* Sponsor a Ring: Dedicate a station to a loved one or your business.
* Support the Mission: Small donations fuel our safety education programs.
* Join the Movement: Mark your calendars for our Coastside Beach Safety Run!

Celebrating the Power of Volunteers: Happy National Volunteer Week!

Non-profits are powered by the heartbeat of our volunteers. We run on the passion of people who show up for their community.

We’re especially grateful for young minds like Rhea Nanda of LASD, who took initiative from start to finish—organizing a cookie sale to support our life ring program. It’s youth leaders like her who make our shores safer, one creative idea at a time.

Whether you’re a student, a baker, a runner—or just someone with an idea—there’s a place for you.

Every small act matters. Every ripple counts.

“It never gets easy.”
At the California Water Safety Summit, Anandita opened with Arunay’s story. Though the words are incredibly hard to say, sharing them with a community dedicated to drowning prevention makes it all worth it. Together, we can—and will—save lives!

On April 15-16, we’re joining the California Water Safety Coalition to bridge the gap between policy and practice.

Northern California’s coast is beautiful but unpredictable. We’re hoping to bring the NorCal’s specific needs to the state level:
* Scaling Life Rings: Expanding our 100-ring campaign to high-risk shorelines.
* Youth Education: Making beach safety a standard in local schools.
* Legislative Change: Turning our community’s experience into law to protect every family.

Join us in Sacramento as we amplify the voice of Northern California to ensure safer waters for all.
