π Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Tom Higbee (aka "Pops")! π
Itβs time for our monthly volunteer spotlight, and this month we are honored to introduce a true cornerstone of the FYCO family: Tom Higbee, though around here, we all affectionately call him Pops!
At 87 years young, Pops brings an incredible work ethic and an abundance of joy to our team every single week.
The Journey to FYCO
After retiring from his career as a welder, Pops didn't stay idle for long. His daughter-in-law, Melissa Higbee, asked him to come out and lend a hand at FYCO, and heβs been making a massive impact ever since.
A Pillar of the Team
Pops keeps things moving smoothly around the food pantry. You can find him keeping the grocery carts organized during distributions, helping neighbors with their senior bags, directing traffic for the farm wagon, and helping receive deliveries every Monday morning.
The Best Part of the Day
When asked about his favorite part of volunteering, Pops kept it beautifully simple:
"The best part about the job is getting hugs from the clients."
Why He Loves It & His Advice for You
Pops genuinely enjoys the simple act of helping other people. If you are thinking about volunteering, his golden rule is a powerful one:
"Smile, it makes all the difference."
Get to Know Pops!
Off the Clock: When he isn't busy helping out at the food pantry, Pops loves going out to enjoy a good meal and catching up on well-deserved naps.
Surprise Fact: Pops has been working almost his entire life! His father started the family welding shop when Pops was just 5 years old, leading to a legendary, lifelong career before his retirement.
Pops, thank you for your incredible dedication, your hard work, and the endless smiles and hugs you bring to FYCO! We are so blessed to have you. π
