To the plow drivers, utility crews, and first responders working around the clock—we see you. As Winter Storm Fern blankets our towns in white and the Arctic Blast sends temperatures plunging into dangerous territory, you are the only thing standing between us and total gridlock. While most of the country is huddled safely inside, you’re out there on the frontlines, battling zero visibility and freezing steel to keep our lifelines open.

A special shoutout to the veterans now serving in these crews; your mission has changed, but your "never quit" spirit remains the same. Navigating a massive plow through a blinding whiteout requires the same grit and focus you learned decades ago in far different conditions. Whether you’re clearing a path to a hospital or restoring power to a freezing neighborhood, you are the unsung guardians of this January freeze, and your community owes you a massive debt of gratitude.

So, to everyone braving the elements to keep us moving: Thank you. Stay safe, stay warm, and know that your hard work is the heartbeat that keeps this country running even when the world turns to ice. We salute your dedication and your courage in the face of Mother Nature's toughest test.

Don’t crowd the plow, give them room if you have to travel, otherwise stay off the roads!

🇺🇸 AMERICA KEPT MOVING — BECAUSE TRUCKERS DID. 🇺🇸🚛
Winter didn’t stop the load.
Icy roads didn’t slow the mission.
Long nights didn’t break the resolve.

🇺🇸 While most stayed warm at home, truckers stayed on the road.
🇺🇸 They hauled through snow so shelves stayed full.
🇺🇸 They drove through storms so homes stayed heated and businesses stayed open.

👉 This country runs on reliability, not excuses.
👉 Supply chains don’t survive on comfort — they survive on commitment.
👉 When truckers roll, America doesn’t miss a day.

This isn’t luck.
It’s discipline.
It’s work done when it’s hardest — not when it’s easy.

Respect the drivers.
Honor the grind.
Never forget who keeps America moving.

🇺🇸🚛

To our partners at the National Weather Service and Virginia’s devoted meteorologists:

Thank you for your exemplary dedication to forecasting severe winter weather. While weather will never be perfectly predictable due to the chaotic and changing nature of the atmosphere, emerging technologies, advanced models, high-resolution observations, and rapid data sharing continue to strengthen our understanding and forecasts. Yet even with these tools, perfect prediction remains elusive because atmospheric conditions are inherently dynamic and influenced by countless interacting factors.

As communities rely on your guidance, a note on public understanding: forecasts are climatological weather maps of possibilities, not certainties. When forecasts shift or don’t pan out exactly as anticipated, a little more understanding and grace from all of us goes a long way. Weather forecasting is a science of probabilities, and the best forecasts are those that continually adapt as new data arrives. We appreciate the ongoing transparency, timely updates, and education you provide to help people respond appropriately, even when conclusions evolve.

Your forecasts give us the foresight to prepare for the worst conditions. They help Emergency Managers stage resources, coordinate transportation and shelter plans, and deliver timely risk information to the public. The partnership between your expertise and these evolving technologies protects lives and property, and we are deeply thankful for your skill, integrity, and collaboration.
