Hope everyone had a great Labor Day. We're going to continue this week sharing some of information we gathered at the Su***de Prevention event we attended last week at the Fredericksburg VA Health Center. 🫡🇺🇲

The VA offers a lot of different programs in-house to battle alcohol use disorder.

Don't feel comfortable going through them? Ask for a community care referral. The important thing is to take that first step.

The Mental Health America organization offers great opportunities to Veterans, their spouses and their teens to get support and education.

Think of it as an oil change or a tune up for your car. These special events can assist before a small manageable issue morphs into something larger.

Also, of note the main purpose of this organization is to offer a nationwide directory of mental health providers. No matter where you live you can go to their website and find support. 🫡🇺🇲

We kicked off Su***de Prevention Month by attending an event at the Fredericksburg VA that was geared towards helping folks recognize signs in others and what to do when that happens.

Over the next few days I'll be sharing some resources we learned about both on the local level and the national level that help support Vets both in mental health and substance abuse.

2026 Su***de Prevention Month Resource Fair

Join us on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Veterans Affairs Health Care Center, located at 10432 Patriot Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22408-2628.

Candlelight Vigil Service will take place on September 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center,

The fair will be held on the first floor in the main entryway hall. Veterans can connect with VA programs and community partners, receive helpful information and resources, pick up Veterans Crisis Line giveaways, and receive food boxes provided by the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

Su***de Prevention Month, recognized each September, is a VA initiative focused on educating and engaging Veterans, their supporters, VA employees, and local communities about su***de risk and prevention.

At Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS), the Su***de Prevention Program supports VA’s highest clinical priority: preventing su***de among all Veterans. Through outreach, education, partnerships, training, research, assessment, intervention, and postvention services, we work to ensure Veterans can access support where they live, work, and thrive.

The Fredericksburg HCC 2026 Su***de Awareness and Prevention Month Candlelight Vigil Service will take place on September 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center, 10432 Patriot Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. The Vigil will be held on the second floor in the Sacred Space/Chapel in room 2C-107
