✨ Director Spotlight ✨

Katlyn Hartman is originally from Franklin, WV and now lives in Rockingham County, VA, where she is an 8th grade English teacher. She won the title of Teen Miss Treasure Mountain Festival in 2014 and went on to win the Miss TMF title in 2016. Later she chose to step away from the WVAFF system before aging out as a contestant to return home and take over directing the pageant.

Katlyn is joined by her mom, Jenny Ruddle, who has worked at Lakeside Book Company for 30 years and also manages bookkeeping, HR, and payroll for Ruddle Farming and Logging LLC. She is a Mountaineer fan and very proud to share that her three children have attended WVU, with her daughters both earning bachelors degrees and son getting ready to start his sophomore year on campus. Jenny is also a dedicated pageant mom and aunt with her niece, Kayla (May) Wolcott serving at Miss West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals 2010.

Together, they have directed for six years and are committed to running a fair, organized, safe, and professional pageant where contestants feel supported and treated equitably. Their goal is for young women to build friendships, gain experience, and feel encouraged throughout the process as well as celebrate the longstanding traditions of the Treasure Mountain Festival.

They also love using the pageant to support tourism and the local economy in Pendleton County by encouraging contestants and families to explore local businesses, landmarks, dining, and lodging during pageant weekend and hopefully more visits to come.

Above all, they value mentoring contestants and building genuine relationships rooted in tradition, community, and personal growth.

"I currently reside in Petersburg, WV with my husband, our son Keaton and fur baby Quinn. I am a nurse manager of two nursing departments.

"As Treasure Mountain Festival Queen, I enjoyed judging the beard and mustache contest as well as competing in fairs and festivals.

"I think it is truly an honor to represent the Treasure Mountain Festival and all of its history, especially when it is your hometown. Competing in this pageant gives you the chance to show others how truly special the town is and the history behind it.

"Pageantry is a competition that most people truly underestimate. Pageantry gives you the opportunity to make so many connections, gain so many experiences and travel to places you may not have before. My advice to someone new to pageantry would be to take the opportunity to learn as much as you can and let it help you make new connections and gain the experience you might not have gotten from anywhere else."

What is the Treasure Mountain Festival?🪎🌄

The Treasure Mountain Festival is a celebration of history, craftmanship, and natural beauty throughout Pendleton County. The festival was founded in 1967 based upon the legend of Fort Seybert. Following a lengthy dispute between settlers in the area and native Shawnee tribesmen, Fort Seybert was looted and burned down. It is believed that this treasure was hidden somewhere throughout the mountains of Pendleton County and never found.

Many have searched for this treasure over the years, but what they found instead were the many natural treasures of our mountains including landmarks such as Spruce K**b (the tallest point in WV) and Seneca Rocks as well as extensive cave systems, two National Forests, and some of the best trout fishing in the state.

The festival features a reenactment of the burning of Fort Seybert, heritage craft demonstrations, a variety of live music, food and craft vendors, a grand parade, heritage tea parties, museum tours, and even a treasure hunt with the opportunity to win $1,000!
