Anderson is not only an excellent scout, but also organized a weekend camp out at the Fox River Trolley Museum during WWII reenactment weekend to honor veterans in the past. Keep up the great work!

Musicians will be playing songs from more than 100 years ago at the Fox River Trolley Museum’s Ragtime Festival in South Elgin.

We are home and safe from the wildfires! Our trip to Northern Tier High Adventure was definitely the trip of a lifetime! We challenged ourselves to things we’d never done before and completed things that left us feeling beyond proud of ourselves. Two crews from our troop went and canoed 40- 80 miles through the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota.

We portaged multiple times, which is when you cross land to get back into another lake. Someone from each canoe carried the canoe and the other 2 would carry a 50-75+lb whale bag.

We had to put all food and anything with a scent in it up into the ‘bear bags’ which got raised up in a tree by a pulley overnight. Each morning we packed up all of our personal gear, tents, and loaded everything into the canoes, to then set up camp again elsewhere later that day.

The trip was phenomenal and we’ll never forget it! Our hearts go out to all those affected, but we are so grateful to have completed our trip just in the nick of time!

Brandon‘s Eagle Scout project was centered around Honor Flight Chicago! Our troop was able to meet the veterans at Midway airport after their day in Washington DC to welcome them home. If you aren’t familiar with it, read on for more detail!

The youngest vet on today’s flight is 70, oldest 100, average age 79.

The flight consists of 111 Males, and 1 Female heroes.

On todays flight there are
6 Combat Infantries, 1 Combat Medic, 3 Hospital Corpsmen, 1 K-9 Badge, 1 Dolphin (Sub), 6 Airborne Wings, 1 HALO Badge, 1 Gunners Wings, 1 WWII Ruptured Duck, and 1 Navy Plank Owner.

1 Distinguished Flying Cross, 1 Bronze Star with “V” Valor, 2 Bronze Star Oak Leaf Cluster, 9 Bronze Star, 2 Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, 2 Purple Hearts, and 4 Air Medal recipients on today’s flight.

65 Army, 1 Army Air Force, 1 Women’s Army Corps, 9 Marine Corps, 19 Navy, and 17 Air Force heroes.

To date, since the first flight in June, 2008, has Flown a total of 12,548 heroes.
6,358 from WWII
2,290 from Korean War
3,900 from Vietnam War.

Every year, Honor Flight Chicago flies hundreds of veteran heroes to Washington D.C. to see the memorials erected in their honor. They are treated with a full day of the honor and respect they deserve! Our heroes arrived at at 3:30am today. It’s been a very long day for many of them. But here to cheer them on and begin their much deserved and long awaited “Welcome Home” and they will be greeted by the cheers of 41 sailors from Great Lakes Naval Training Center at the gate, a
Chicago Fire Department Pipes & Drums, the Frankfort Brass Band, Patriot Guard Riders, area scouts and students, and thousands of patiently waiting family and friends in baggage claim.
