The City Council has asked Mayor Sisitsky to redo the city's FY2027 operating budget, leaving it uncertain whether the Chief Climate and Sustainability Officer will be funded.

Please take a minute to reach out to the Mayor’s Office and your City Councilors a.s.a.p. and tell them you want this executive-level position funded -- as per the City Charter.

One reason: Rising energy costs. The new budget asks for $530,211 more for energy than last year’s expenditure – and that doesn’t even include the schools, which comprise 73% of building energy costs in Framingham.

This Mother’s Day, consider local or in-season flowers. 💐

They’re often fresher, travel less, and support nearby growers. You can also visit local farms that offer pick-your-own flowers in the spring for a fun and meaningful experience.

One of our best Earth Days yet! Many people came by to hang out, sign our Chief Climate and Sustainability Officer petition, add leaves to our tree saying why they love trees, and cosplay as chipmunks. We'd also like to highlight here two great organizations doing important work in Framingham: , which is helping residents navigate their energy choices and save money, and , which is helping renters get electricity discounts by signing up with community solar.

If you’re going to the Framingham Earth Day Festival, be sure to stop by Energize Framingham’s table!

Start with a fun activity: share what you love about trees by adding a leaf to our tree, and take a picture in our tree photo op.

Next, find out what we’ve been up to, learn about ways to volunteer, and sign our petition to fund the Chief Climate Officer position, added in the new City Charter, in the FY2027 budget.

See you at the fest!

This Monday Apr. 27, 6 p.m. is Mayor Sisitsky's public hearing on his proposed FY2027 operating budget.

We are hoping it will include a Chief Climate and Sustainability Officer -- a new executive-level position, part of the revised City Charter that voters approved last fall. We believe the position is an important investment in Framingham’s fiscal health, bringing new grants to the city (more than covering the salary cost) and saving money long-term amid rising energy costs and climate impacts.

The Mayor has expressed support for the position, but public testimony matters! Check www.framinghamma.gov/3662/Public-Meeting-Calendar for the agenda and Zoom link -- not yet posted at this writing. Or go in person (Memorial Hall, Blumer Room)

If the position makes it into the proposed budget, it next goes to the City Council, with hearings likely in May. We encourage you to reach out to your city councilor!

If you're at Earth Day, come by and sign our petition!
